The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats notched six more wins on the basketball court last week.
The eighth-grade Bobcats improved to 8-0 by defeating Union (40-37), Lumpkin (48-38) and White (48-42) counties. CCMS seventh graders notched three wins as well by scores of 46-23 over Union, 40-16 against Lumpkin and 46-35 versus White.
Eighth grade
Bobcats Talyn Curtis and Jackson McVey led the way last Monday against Union with 13 and 12 points, respectively. CCMS led by five after a quarter and 18-14 at halftime.
When Union only scored five points in the third quarter, Clear Creek made its move for a 28-19 edge. UCMS netted 18 points in the fourth but fell short and CCMS won by three. J.D. Taylor added eight points for CCMS.
McVey racked up 23 more points Wednesday versus Lumpkin and Curtis scored 14. The Indians buried themselves in a deep hole after only scoring two points in the first quarter.
Clear Creek’s 16-point edge turned into a 30-16 halftime lead. McVey and Curtis accounted for all CCMS points in the third and the Cats led, 42-26.
UCMS hit a trio of three pointers in the final quarter but CCMS was still able to secure its seventh win of the season.
The Bobcats closed out the week Thursday. McVey had another strong performance and scored 16. Keegen Bryant contributed nine, which all came in the fourth quarter. Curtis added seven, Haden West totaled six, Taylor finished with four and Cooper Farmer scored three.
CCMS led 9-8 after a quarter, 20-15 at halftime and 28-23 with seven minutes to play. McVey scored eight points in the fourth. The right mix of players on the defensive end helped CCMS preserve its victory, according to coach Chad Miller.
Seventh grade
CCMS seized control of the game from the start versus Union. The Cats led 23-15 at halftime, and Clear Creek kept humming with 17 more points in the third. CCMS cruised to its 23-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Bubba Callihan led CCMS with 15 points, Boston Teague scored eight, Mason West tallied seven, both Bryant and Jaden Sevcech scored five and Peyton Chancey had two.
The Cats dominated Lumpkin as well and surged to a 14-3 lead after the first and 29-19 at the break. The Bobcats maintained their commanding lead over the final two quarters and put the game away easily.
Teague and Callihan both scored 12 and Bryant added nine to lead CCMS offensively.
Another strong start helped springboard the Bobcats to victory versus White. CCMS jumped ahead 11-4 after a quarter and moved their advantage to 26-15 at halftime as Teague was there for 17.
WCMS trimmed the Cats’ edge to 38-30 entering the fourth where CCMS would not be denied.
Teague finished the game with 27 points and Callihan added 11.
