GHS Lady Cats win 3 more

The Gilmer Lady Cats appeared to regain their form on the basketball court last week. The Cats suffered their first two losses of the season a week prior coming off an extended COVID-19 break.

Eighth-grade Cats trounce Fannin, 55-33

The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats were back on the basketball court last week following Christmas break. Clear Creek hit the hardwood Wednesday against the Fannin County Rebels. The seventh-grade Cats were up first and were defeated 52-41 while CCMS eighth graders  came out on top, 55-33.

Bobcats take down Lumpkin County, 59-55

The Gilmer High Bobcats ended their four-game losing streak on the basketball court last week. Gilmer hosted region opponents North Hall Friday and Lumpkin County the following day. The NHS Trojans were able to hold on for a 55-45 win after building a formidable 17-point lead at the half.

GHS Bobcats win home tourney, improve to 11-1

The Gilmer Bobcat Duals were the destination for six wrestling teams last Saturday. GHS hosted the annual event, and this year the field was cut in half and a round-robin format was used. The Bobcats posted a 5-0 record on the day to walk away as champions and improve to 11-1 on the season.

Lady Cats lose to Colts, Phoenix

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were back on the court in Dalton last week. GHS played in a Christmas tournament over two days at Christan Heritage School. The Cats first met Coahulla Creek Tuesday and Class 3A’s No. 3 ranked Colts won, 61-58.

While there were some pit stops along the way, Eric Turner found a baseball home in Kansas. Turner, a 2018 Gilmer High graduate, attends Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. and pitches for the Saints.

Cats drop nonregion games to Lions, Wolverines

The Gilmer Bobcats made their way to Dalton last week for a pair of Christmas tournament basketball games. The two-day event was held at Chastain Heritage School, and the Bobcats were missing multiple contributors both games. Gilmer met the host Lions Tuesday and fell, 60-30.

GHS swimmers back in pool for new year

A swim meet at the beginning of the new year saw Gilmer High School arrive a bit shorthanded. GHS attended the Spear and Shield Meet at River Ridge High School last Saturday. Gilmer was without half of its swimmers,  according to coach Mary-Melissa May.

Back from COVID delay, GHS begins region play

Following a two-week break from games, the Gilmer High School Bobcats were back on the basketball court last Monday. GHS was sidelined because of exposure to COVID-19, and the Cats’ return came on the road to begin region play versus the West Hall Spartans.
