Gilmer High cross-country runners made the short trip to Jasper for the Pickens Preview.
The annual event drew 31 teams for the boys 5K last Saturday, while 28 were in attendance for the girls race with respective winners Carrollton (43 points) and Marietta (40).
Seven GHS Bobcats ran in the varsity race, and the top five times were used to determine the team score. The Bobcats landed in 31st with a score of 836. The Lady Cats’ five runners achieved a score of 812 for 28th.
Talyn Mesner was the Bobcats’ top runner and he placed 125th in 19:23.4. Michael Little was next and turned in a time of 20:18.5. for 162nd place. Remaining runners included Larz Fowler (23:06.4, 208th place), Will Capstick (24:18.4, 211th), Drew Little (24:39.4, 212th), Christopher Chun-Bell (24:48.8, 213th) and Max New (25:04.8, 214th).
Helana Garland was the first Lady Cat to cross the finish line and her time was 24:18.3 for 117th place. Next up was Kamryn Baxter in 169th at 27:18.4, and remaining Lady Cats included Jayla Walker (27:21.1, 180th), Amalia Raymundo-Lopez (28:25.5, 189th) and Carly Becerra (30:26.8, 196th).
Next up for GHS runners is a Thursday meet at Meeks Park in Blairsville set for 4 p.m.
