Clear Creek Lady Cats capture league title

The championship game continued the season’s theme as it ended with another Lady Cat win in a blowout. Clear Creek won the league softball title last Tuesday, and its offense ensured the game would be called early.

CCMS 7th graders remain undefeated

Triumph came before heartache. The Clear Creek Bobcats hosted the opening round of the Mountain Athletic Conference’s football playoffs last Tuesday. The seventh graders squared off against Dawson County and delivered a sound 35-7 defeat to the Tigers.

GHS softball eliminated from region tourney

The Gilmer High Lady Cats’ softball season has come to a close. The region tournament got rolling last Saturday in Cumming, and GHS blasted the West Hall Spartans in the opening round, 11-3.

Mountain Inv. latest test for Gilmer High XC

Helen’s Mountain Invitational was the latest stop for Gilmer High cross-country runners. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the annual 5K last Tuesday and squared off against 31 teams.

Pickens gets rivalry win over JV Bobcats, 22-12

The junior varsity Bobcats hosted rival Pickens last Thursday. Costly turnovers hurt the Cats, and Pickens reached the end zone on its last three drives for a 22-12 win.
Gilmer High School’s competition cheerleaders were at Dawson County High School last Saturday for their second event of the year, and GHS finished fourth in its division. Head coach Naomi Esparza noted GHS showed overall improvement. She hopes to see continued improvement this Saturday at South Forsyth, specifically when it comes to cheerleaders’ stunts.

Gilmer rec football teams returned to the road as they made their way to Lumpkin County. The Indians hosted Gilmer last Saturday, and the visiting Bobcats found success in the final games of the day. Gilmer’s fifth graders earned a 19-6 win before sixth graders trounced the Indians, 42-6.

GHS Bobcats destroy West Hall, 45-3

No passing. No problem. The Gilmer High Bobcats were in West Hall last Thursday to spoil the Spartans’ homecoming. The Bobcats’ quick-strike offense was at it again, while the defense only surrendered three points and special teams blocked two kicks and forced a fumble.

CCMS 7th, 8th-grade Cats smoke Dragons

Clear Creek whipped Pickens. The CCMS Bobcats made the short trip south last Tuesday to take on their archrival, and the Dragons had no answer in either game. Eighth graders were up first, and there was no stopping the Bobcat rushing attack in a 32-6 win.

Lady Cat softball set for 7-3A tournament

The Gilmer Lady Cats lost a heart breaker to rival Pickens. GHS was in Jasper last Tuesday, and the Dragonnettes rallied in the final inning to get the win. PHS erased the Cats’ one-run edge in the bottom of the seventh, and Gilmer returned to Ellijay with a 3-2 loss.
