Warriors erase 22-point lead to stun GHS

Ten minutes and 23 seconds stood between Gilmer High and the state playoffs. The GHS Bobcats held a 22-point lead last Friday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium with their first state playoff berth since 2014 on the line.

Gilmer 6th graders blank White County for championship

They entered as the underdog and left as champions. The sixth-grade Gilmer Bobcats are Mountain Athletic Conference champions following their commanding 14-0 football victory over the previously one-loss White County Warriors.

Gilmer High cheerleaders took the floor for the final time this season. GHS was at Morgan County High School last Saturday for the region competition. Gilmer had one of its best performances of the year and scored a 58 for third place.

GHS swim heads to Dalton for 1st meet

The annual Battle of Dalton was Gilmer High’s first swimming engagement of the season. GHS made the trip last Saturday for the five-team event, and the Bobcats finished third in the boys standings with 176 points. The Lady Cats claimed fourth place among girls teams and topped out at 196 points.

CCMS tangles with Panthers to tipoff season

Clear Creek’s basketball season got underway versus league foe Union County. The CCMS Bobcats hosted the Panthers last Thursday while the Lady Cats were on the road. The seventh-grade Bobcats surged to a healthy lead before a Panther comeback. CCMS survived the fourth quarter rally for a 49-45 win.

CCMS wrestling crushes Fannin Co.

Clear Creek wrestling started its season with a bang. The CCMS Bobcats were in Blue Ridge last Tuesday to take on Fannin and Towns counties. The Cats pounded the host Rebels for a 70-18 victory. Towns forfeited to CCMS and wrestled exhibition matches instead and the Bobcats won 15.

Gilmer’s playoff scenario now set

The Gilmer High Bobcats’ postseason chances are two-fold. First and foremost, Gilmer must win Friday versus White County to reach the state playoffs. The next piece to Gilmer’s postseason puzzle includes Pickens defeating Wesleyan. If those two events do not occur, GHS will be at home in week 11.

8 GHS Lady Cats voted all-region

Eight Gilmer High School fall athletes have been recognized by region coaches. GHS all-region softball selections include seniors Macy Hamby and Maddie Wright on the first team, Jacie Bennett on the second, while freshmen Phoenix Addie and Lily Fortune received an honorable mention.

Gilmer 6th graders in title game

Gilmer’s sixth graders have advanced to the Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship. The Bobcats punched their ticket to the title game with a 12-8 semifinal victory over Fannin County last Saturday. The previously undefeated Rebels entered the day allowing nine points per game.
