Gilmer wrestling thrives in early season

Gilmer High wrestlers had an action-packed four day schedule ahead of Thanksgiving. The boys made their way to Allatoona High Nov. 19 for the annual Blackbeard Duals. The highly-competitive event drew some top teams once again, and GHS finished with a 4-1 record for fifth place.

GHS Lady Cats fall to Fannin, Pickens

The Gilmer High Lady Cats closed out the ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tip-off Tournament against two of its oldest rivals. GHS hosted Fannin County last Monday in the second round, and the visiting Lady Rebels’ offense was difficult for the Cats to contain.

GHS Cats cruise by Cougars

The Gilmer High Bobcats had the biggest turnaround in Class 3A last season when it came to basketball wins. GHS posted a 19-11 record a year ago and also returned to the state tournament. Five seniors graduated off that team who were either starters or lettermen.

Sluggish start dooms Lady Cats versus Basin

Dani Wright is set for her first season as the Lady Cats’ head basketball coach. Much of the offseason and summer was about learning. Wright, along with husband and assistant coach David, have been getting to know the players and their personalities on and off the court.

CCMS wrestling wins again

Clear Creek wrestling was back on the road to take on White County. The CCMS Bobcats made the trek last Tuesday to meet the host Warriors to continue their league schedule, and they returned to Ellijay with another win, 51-36.

Rebels sweep Clear Creek Cats on court

Clear Creek squared off against the Fannin County Rebels on the basketball court last Monday. The Lady Cats played host while the Bobcats were on the road. The seventh-grade Lady Cats endured their first loss (39-19) of the season as the Rebels were able to handle Clear Creek’s defensive pressure.

Gilmer High wrestling starts season at 4-0

Gilmer High wrestling fans gathered for the purple and white alumni night to get a glimpse of this year’s team. The annual event was held last Tuesday at the GHS gym. After falling behind early, an eight match  purple winning streak allowed them to come away with a 42-31 win.

Gilmer swims at ‘Klassic’

The TikTok Klassic drew some top competition to the annual swim meet in Calhoun. The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats were in attendance last Saturday and tallied 29 and six points, respectively. One of Gilmer’s top placements came in the boys 200-yard freestyle relay.

7th grade Bobcats win 2 more

The Clear Creek Bobcats were back on the basketball court for a pair of league matchups. CCMS was on the road last Monday in White County to take on the Warriors. The Cats received a strong scoring effort in each game as the seventh graders won 47-37, and the eighth grade came out on top, 49-41.
