The Gilmer High Bobcats’ postseason chances are two-fold. First and foremost, Gilmer must win Friday versus White County to reach the state playoffs. The next piece to Gilmer’s postseason puzzle includes Pickens defeating Wesleyan. If those two events do not occur, GHS will be at home in week 11.

8 GHS Lady Cats voted all-region

Eight Gilmer High School fall athletes have been recognized by region coaches. GHS all-region softball selections include seniors Macy Hamby and Maddie Wright on the first team, Jacie Bennett on the second, while freshmen Phoenix Addie and Lily Fortune received an honorable mention.

Gilmer 6th graders in title game

Gilmer’s sixth graders have advanced to the Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship. The Bobcats punched their ticket to the title game with a 12-8 semifinal victory over Fannin County last Saturday. The previously undefeated Rebels entered the day allowing nine points per game.

Gilmer High cross-country runners hit the trail for the final time this season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Helen last Tuesday for the Region 7-3A Championships at Unicoi State Park.

Gilmer High hit the road to take on first place Dawson County, and the Bobcats suffered their third region loss in a row. The Cats made the trip last Friday, and they tangled with the Tigers in a defensive struggle.

With the region competition on the horizon, state is right around the corner. Gilmer High School cheerleaders will take the floor at region next Saturday. They received last Saturday off after some injuries sidelined multiple cheerleaders.

In a rivalry anything can happen, and the latest Gilmer Bobcat football game proved that. GHS traveled to Pickens last Friday, and the Dragons had their best game of the season.

Clear Creek Middle School now has two championships for the fall season. The undefeated CCMS Bobcats and one-loss Lumpkin County Indians faced off for the Mountain Athletic Conference’s seventh-grade football title last Tuesday in White County.

Gilmer High volleyball closed out its regular season Tuesday Oct. 4 in Blue Ridge. GHS faced rival Fannin County, and the match needed five sets to decide a winner. The Rebels won the first two sets before the Cats took the next two. FCHS claimed the match with a fifth set win.
