GHS cross-country runners cap season at region

Gilmer High cross-country runners hit the trail for the final time this season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Helen last Tuesday for the Region 7-3A Championships at Unicoi State Park.

Tigers claw way past Bobcats, 17-7

Gilmer High hit the road to take on first place Dawson County, and the Bobcats suffered their third region loss in a row. The Cats made the trip last Friday, and they tangled with the Tigers in a defensive struggle.

Gilmer High cheerleaders set to take the floor at region

With the region competition on the horizon, state is right around the corner. Gilmer High School cheerleaders will take the floor at region next Saturday. They received last Saturday off after some injuries sidelined multiple cheerleaders.

GHS Bobcats stumble vs. Pickens

In a rivalry anything can happen, and the latest Gilmer Bobcat football game proved that. GHS traveled to Pickens last Friday, and the Dragons had their best game of the season.

CCMS Bobcats win 7th-grade football title

Clear Creek Middle School now has two championships for the fall season. The undefeated CCMS Bobcats and one-loss Lumpkin County Indians faced off for the Mountain Athletic Conference’s seventh-grade football title last Tuesday in White County.

Gilmer volleyball ends season at region tournament

Gilmer High volleyball closed out its regular season Tuesday Oct. 4 in Blue Ridge. GHS faced rival Fannin County, and the match needed five sets to decide a winner. The Rebels won the first two sets before the Cats took the next two. FCHS claimed the match with a fifth set win.

Gilmer rec football teams were back on the gridiron for their final games of the regular season. Five Bobcat squads made the trek to Chestatee last Saturday, and four delivered a loss to the War Eagles. Gilmer got the proceedings underway with a first-grade shutout victory, 25-0.

Gilmer High XC readies for Region 7-3A meet

Gilmer High made the trip north for its final cross-country tuneup before the region meet. Four teams gathered at North Murray High School last Wednesday, and the Bobcats finished second behind Fannin County. The host Mountaineers took third over Murray County.
Gilmer High halfbacks Hunter Watkins (7) and Will Kiker (10) continue to makes defenses pay and have averaged 12.3 and 10.2 yards per carry this season. Both scored two touchdowns versus Lumpkin County last Friday as Watkins rushed for 158 yards and Kiker went for 146.

Lumpkin Co. slips past Cats, 31-28

Lumpkin County led for 35 seconds, and that is all the Indians needed. The Gilmer High Bobcats hosted LCHS last Friday for homecoming, and its high-octane offense was on display once again. However, a costly penalty and turnover helped keep Lumpkin in the game.
