CCMS cross country was in Jasper last Saturday for the Pickens Preview. The Clear Creek Lady Cats (246 points) placed ninth, while the Bobcats (313) were 12th in the boys standings. CCMS pitcher Braylee Stewart, who struck out 12 of 15 Dawson County Tigers in the Cats’ season opener last Tuesday.

Region action begins this week for Gilmer

The Gilmer Lady Cats continued their nonregion softball slate with three more games. GHS was back on the road at Cass last Wednesday, and the Colonels were able to spark a late-inning rally for a 4-3 win. The Lady Cats attended their second weekend tournament in a row Saturday.

GHS volleyball opens season on road vs. War Eagles

Gilmer High volleyball opened its season against hard-hitting Chestatee. GHS made the trip to Hall County last Thursday to take on the host War Eagles, and they proved to be a formidable opponent. Since it was a nonregion match, they played the best out of five sets, and Chestatee won, 3-0.

GHS Bobcats, Tigers tangle in Commerce

The Gilmer Bobcats were in Commerce for a hot and muggy football scrimmage. The two teams squared off last Friday after three days of practice in full pads. Varsity starters took the field for the first half, while the younger and inexperienced played the third and fourth quarters.

GHS softball starts 2023 with tourney

Gilmer High opened its softball season with a tournament. The GHS Lady Cats traveled to Cass High School last Saturday and took the field for three games. Gilmer faced teams from larger classifications in each game, and the Cats fell to Chamblee to start the tournament, 7-0.

Freshman Callihan has strong season at Berry

Elly Callihan performed on and off the basketball court at Berry College. The 2022 Gilmer High alum ended her freshman year as one of 200 Viking athletes who were named to the Southern Athletic Association’s academic honor roll.

Former Bobcat Lykins becomes a Titan

Law Lykins has etched his name into the annals of Gilmer High history. Lykins graduated from GHS in May, and in the coming months, he will become one of a handful of alumni swimmers who has competed in the college ranks.

Bobcat football takes on Commerce Friday

The Gilmer High Bobcats are set to embark on the 2023 season with Friday’s scrimmage at Commerce. Gilmer joined the rest of the state Monday as programs were permitted to conduct practice in full pads for the first time this summer.
Bobcat Carson Farist is set to return for his senior season at GHS. He is an individual state champion and three-time finalist.

GHS wrestling stays sharp during summer

Fresh off its 19th wrestling state championship and second traditional title in a row, Gilmer High returned to the Noah Harris Center for the summer. Much like its winter sports brethren, GHS spent four weeks in June practicing, attending camps and facing other schools.
Gilmer High alum Will Kiker secured one of 10 preferred walk-on spots at Georgia Tech, and he will report to practice July 31.

Kiker, GT set to join forces in Atlanta

Will Kiker was a three-sport athlete at Gilmer High, and he is set to play football at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Kiker is a 2023 GHS honor graduate, and was a household name to fans of the purple and white.
