CCMS Cats blast Dawson

Clear Creek Middle School sent its eighth graders out on a winning note. The CCMS Lady Cats hosted the Dawson County Tigers last Tuesday and also celebrated its five eighth-graders. It was a tight game through five innings before the Cats’ offense erupted.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were dealt a pair of volleyball losses versus region opponents. GHS made its way to Norcross last Tuesday to take on host Wesleyan and Lumpkin County. Both matches needed two sets to decide a winner and the Cats lost, 2-0. The host Wolves downed Gilmer 25-8 and 25-13.

Gilmer High wrapped up its nonregion football schedule with its third blowout victory. The Ringgold Tigers were the latest to fall, and they met their demise against the Bobcats at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Friday.

Clear Creek Middle School football is still undefeated. The seventh and eighth-grade Bobcats hosted Dawson County last Wednesday, and the day got rolling with the latter’s 20-0 victory. The seventh-grade game had plenty of quick scores, and by the end, CCMS came out on top, 34-22.

The Clear Creek Lady Cats claimed three softball wins over their rivals. CCMS faced both Pickens and Fannin over its last four games. First up was Pickens Aug. 30, and the Cats won 2-0 with strong pitching and a timely hit.

Clear Creek cross-country runners turned in a pair of third-place finishes.  The four-team race was held in Fannin County last Tuesday, and the CCMS Lady Cats scored 51 team points. The Bobcats totaled 76 in the boys standings. Ella Schwartz turned in a 3.

A West Hall rally denied the Lady Cats. Gilmer continued its region softball slate last week. After Monday’s game at Wesleyan was rained out, the Cats made their way to take on the Spartans Thursday. Gilmer’s runs came steadily through the first four innings, while West Hall did its damage late.
