Gilmer High volleyball earned their second win of the season. The Cats were in Murray County last Monday to take on the host Indians and Cass Colonels. MCHS came away with a 2-0 win, while Gilmer downed Cass, 2-1.

A week removed from a lopsided victory, the Gilmer Bobcats received a taste of their own medicine. GHS made the short trip to face rival Fannin County last Friday. The Rebels’ offense made good use of the pass when their ground game was not gashing the Cats’ defense for big gains.

It was another busy week for Gilmer High volleyball. The Cats were on the court eight times last week for a mix of region and nonregion matches.  GHS started its slate of matches last Tuesday versus region foes Lumpkin County and Pickens. Against rival Pickens, the GHS won the second set, 25-20.

Clear Creek football earned decisive victories versus White County. The CCMS Bobcats hosted White last Tuesday, and the visiting Warriors only managed one score in two games. The eighth-grade Cats scored every time their offense took the field.

Gilmer High cross-country returned to Blairsville’s Meek’s Park for its latest meet. The Annual Run to the Hills 5K was held last Thursday, and the GHS Bobcats were runners-up. The Lady Cats placed third in the girls standings.

The Gilmer Lady Cats were back on the softball diamond for two more region games. GHS hosted the Dawson County Tigers last Tuesday, and the two battled it out in a low-scoring affair.  Only one run was scored, and it was the Tigers who slipped by with a 1-0 win.

Above is Clear Creek Middle School softball player Maylee Bramlett. The Cats returned to the diamond for four softball games and faced White County Friday, Aug. 18, and came away with a 6-5 win. The Cats met Gladden the following day and rolled to a 7-0 victory.

CCMS Bobcats, Lady Cats continue cross-country season

The county’s cross-country runners all gathered at Meek’s Park. The annual Run to the Hills event attracted four middle school boys teams and six girls squads for the 3.2K race. The Clear Creek Lady Cats finished third with 80 points, and the Bobcats (101) were fourth in the boys standings.
Gilmer junior fullback Wyatt Stokes (35) keeps a drive alive in the third quarter of last Friday’s game versus Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. He finished the game with 83 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Gilmer’s offense could not be stopped. The GHS Bobcats ran around and through the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors to begin their football season last Friday. Only halftime interrupted Gilmer’s scoring, and its defense handled the rest.
