Gilmer finishes 2nd in four state swim events

Another summer swim season is in the books. Gilmer was one of 10 teams in Baxley for last weekend’s Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class C State Championships. The Bobcats and Lady Cats reached the finals in 23 events and came home with four runner-up placements.

CCMS tests aerial offense, defense

The Gilmer High Bobcats are not the only ones sharpening their passing offense and defense. Clear Creak Middle School hosted Sonoraville, Ashworth and Fannin County last Wednesday for a seven-on-seven passing competition.

Hard-hitting Hamby heads to Appalachian State

Macy Hamby is one of the top softball players in Gilmer High School’s history. The 2023 GHS honor graduate was a four-year all-region player for the Lady Cats. Her next destination will be Appalachian State University where she will take the field for the Mountaineers.

Gilmer Lady Cats conclude summer

Head coach Dani Wright and the Lady Cats just finished their second summer together, and the program has progressed significantly over the past 12 months. Gilmer High’s summer basketball schedule had a little bit of everything with practices, camps and scrimmages.

Lyles next Bobcat set for college soccer

The Gilmer High soccer program is amidst its most successful run in school history. It comes as no surprise that Bobcats are continuing to play beyond the high school ranks, and the latest to do so is Camden Lyles.

Rosser provides veteran presence at KSU

Brooks Rosser’s college baseball journey continues at Kennesaw State University. The Gilmer High alum spent his first three seasons playing at Truett-McConnell University. After attaining a bachelor’s degree last spring, Rosser set his sights on KSU where he is a graduate student.

Gilmer plays 34 scrimmages during June

Coach Jordan Hice and the Bobcats had a busy June as scrimmages dominated their summer. Gilmer High was on the court following June’s opening week in which no activities were permitted.

GHS sharpens passing game

The early preseason has been a time for the Bobcats to let it fly. Gilmer High was in Towns County last Thursday for its latest seven-on-seven passing event. In addition to GHS and the host Indians, Johnson and Oglethorpe County were in attendance.

Gilmer County swimmers ready for state championship meet

Gilmer swimmers received a final tune-up ahead of the state meet. Four teams gathered at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center last Thursday. Ten Gilmer swimmers made the trip as they continued to improve on seasonal times.

Summer vacation is in full swing, and Gilmer High School is holding its annual slate of summer youth sports camps. Soccer camp will be July 11-13 at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m. The camp is open to boys and girls entering pre-K through eighth grade and the cost is $60.
