Gilmer County swimmers turned in 17 first-place times at the district meet. Four teams made their way to the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s District 5 Championships in Fort Oglethorpe last Saturday.

Summer vacation is in full swing, and Gilmer High School is holding its annual slate of summer youth sports camps. Soccer camp will be July 11-13 at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m. The camp is open to boys and girls entering pre-K through eighth grade and the cost is $60.

All-region catcher Maddie Wright will be staying close to home at Reinhardt University. Wright is a 2023 Gilmer High School honor graduate who was a regular fixture in the Lady Cats’ lineup.

The park and rec summer swim season got rolling in Canton. Three teams gathered at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center last Thursday as the host Pelicans welcomed the Pickens Sea Dragons and Cartersville Cobias.
Ashtyn Griggs is a 2023 GHS honor graduate and will make her way to Piedmont University in the fall to continue her education while cheering for the Lions.

Ashtyn Griggs will trade in the purple and white of Gilmer High for the green and gold of Piedmont University when she enrolls in the coming months. Griggs, a 2023 GHS honor graduate, is set to cheer for the Lions.

Two of the most decorated wrestlers to ever don Gilmer High’s lightning-clad singlets are set to return next week. Matthew Waddell and brother Caleb Waddell will run Gilmer’s annual Homegrown Camp for the second year in a row.
