The Clear Creek Lady Cats claimed three softball wins over their rivals.
CCMS faced both Pickens and Fannin over its last four games. First up was Pickens Aug. 30, and the Cats won 2-0 with strong pitching and a timely hit.
The Cats were in Fannin last Tuesday, and their hitting matched their pitching in a 6-2 victory. CCMS traveled to Pickens two days later, and this time the Dragonettes earned a 3-1 win.
Clear Creek was back at home versus Fannin Friday and defeated the Lady Rebels decisively, 9-1.
Pitcher Braley Stewart has continued to shine for the Cats and had 48 total strikeouts versus Pickens and Fannin.
In the Cats’ win over Pickens, she fanned 13, and the game remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Clear Creek’s Kali McCardle started the frame with a walk before by Nevaeh Copeland’s single. Melissa Rasmussen’s clutch hit scored both for the game’s only runs.
Head coach Tina McDaniel noted Rasmussen also made a pair of key plays defensively in center field that helped preserve Stewart’s shutout.
In the Cats’ first meeting versus Fannin, Stewart struck out 14 to go with three hits offensively. Rasmussen recorded two hits, which included a double. Neeyah McDaniel collected two hits, while Brenlee Daniel, McCardle, Parker Blue Williams and Jocelyn McCollum had one hit apiece.
Sixth grader Lily Teague was a defensive stalwart for the Cats in right field.
Stewart was back at it again with 13 strikeouts in Clear Creek’s rematch against Pickens. However, four CCMS errors allowed the Dragonettes to avenge their loss.
he Cats only needed five innings to defeat Fannin the second time. Both McCollum and Rasmussen tallied two hits. Stewart, McCardle and Laney Cox all recorded one hit. Stewart got the win and struck out eight. McDaniel praised McCollum’s dependable glove at second base and said she was the defensive player of the game.
The Cats’ B-team also squared off against the Rebels. It was a three-inning game with the run limit set at five per inning, and Fannin won, 9-7.
“This year we have 20 girls on the team,” McDaniel said. “This gave everyone the opportunity to get some playing time. This opportunity can only make our program better as we are getting game experience with everyone.
“Teague, Mckenly Holt, McCollum and Katlyn Bedwell all got some experience pitching on the middle school level.”
