The Gilmer High Lady Cats were dealt a pair of volleyball losses versus region opponents.
GHS made its way to Norcross last Tuesday to take on host Wesleyan and Lumpkin County. Both matches needed two sets to decide a winner and the Cats lost, 2-0.
The host Wolves downed Gilmer 25-8 and 25-13. Lumpkin was victorious by scores of 25-17 and 25-15. Head coach Maria Huelsman noted that when adversity hit, points came quickly for the opposition.
“We started out pretty strong against Lumpkin, and we let up after we made some errors,” she said. “They let it get the best of them. I don’t think we played terribly against Wesleyan, but they’re definitely better than we are.
“I need my seniors to step up and lead.”
Anneliese Vaughan was Gilmer’s top hitter versus both Wesleyan and Lumpkin and scored five kills in each match. Huelsman praised libero Maddy Usry for getting to balls for digs to initiate the offense.
Gilmer travels to Dalton Thursday and will head to Southeast Whitfield Saturday for the Raider Rally.
