The Gilmer Lady Cats continued their nonregion slate versus the visiting Dawson County Tigers.
GHS hosted Dawson last Friday, and the Tigers dominated possession and the game. DCHS netted two goals in each half and silenced the Cats’ attack for a 4-0 win.
Gilmer goalkeeper Amayah Jones was pressed into service early and saved Dawson’s first shot less than three minutes into the match. She would not be as fortunate on a DCHS breakaway moments later when a second shot flew over her head and into the net.
A second Dawson goal was scored with 26:29 left in the half. While the Tigers did not add any more goals before the half, they were constantly on the attack and quick to dispossess the ball from GHS players.
DCHS continued to create chances after the break and added a third goal 15 minutes into the second half. Dawson remained on the attack and set up a corner kick with under a minute to play. The ball was sent into the box and the Tigers corralled it to make its lead 4-0.
The loss dropped Gilmer’s record to 3-2. The Cats played region opponent LaFayette at press deadline and will host Heritage Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
