Gilmer High was on the tennis court for region and nonregion matches through the early season.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats played four matches last week, and the latter earned one win.
The Lady Cats’ triumph came Friday at home against Fannin County. GHS sent the Rebels back to Blue Ridge with a 4-1 loss.
The Cats fell to a pair of nonregreion opponents on Monday and Tuesday at Pickens (5-0) and Dawson (4-1). They hosted region foe Northwest Whitfield Thursday and lost, 4-1.
The Bobcats lost to Pickens (5-0), Dawson (4-1), Whitfield (4-1) and Fannin (4-1).
The match versus Fannin used 8-game pro set scoring, and the Lady Cats earned the sweep in singles matches. Top single Lyla Engle and No. 2 Madison Bradshaw both won, 8-5, while No. 3 Katelyn Campbell rolled to an 8-1 win.
The No. 1 doubles team of Bree Burnette and Chelsey Griggs won, 8-3. Addie Duggan and Addison Potter fell in the No. 2 doubles slot, 8-1.
The Burnette and Griggs tandem accounted for the Lady Cats’ lone wins against Dawson (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and Northwest (6-4, 7-5).
Versus Dawson, Bobcat Chase Little took the first set of his No. 2 singles match 6-2 and dropped the second, 6-3. His 6-2 win in the third set gave him the match. Little was victorious against Northwest Whitfield as well, 6-0, 6-3.
David Warren opened his No. 3 singles match versus Fannin with an 8-7 win and secured the win with a 7-4 tiebreaker.
GHS began the season Feb. 13 at Lumpkin County, and the Bobcats and Lady Cats both lost, 5-0.
Gilmer traveled to Fannin Monday evening and to Murray County Thursday for a 4 p.m. match.
