Eighth-grade Cats trounce Fannin, 55-33

The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats were back on the basketball court last week following Christmas break.

Clear Creek hit the hardwood Wednesday against the Fannin County Rebels. The seventh-grade Cats were up first and were defeated 52-41 while CCMS eighth graders  came out on top, 55-33.

Bubba Callihan scored 22 points for CCMS seventh graders and 14 came in the second half. Teammate Jaden Sevcech was there for a pair of three pointers in the first quarter, and Fannin slipped ahead, 11-10.

Callihan, Keegen Bryant and  Mason West provided CCMS points in the second quarter, but the Rebels were able to maintain a 25-21 lead at halftime.

FCMS made four three pointers on the day and drained three in the third quarter to get the boost it needed as the Cats fell behind 38-29 with seven minutes to play.

CCMS and Fannin scored almost evenly in the fourth. Callihan was there for 10 more points, but the Cats could not close down the Rebels’ advantage.

Bryant added seven points on the day, Sevcech scored six, West had four and Peyton Chancey tallied two.

The eighth-grade teams played a close game through a half before CCMS put the game away. Bryant led the Bobcats with 15 points, which were all scored in the third and fourth quarters.

Jackson McVey and Talyn Curtis manned the post for the Bobcats in the first half and scored 13 of 22 points. Haden West and J. D. Taylor both hits threes for CCMS in the opening half.

The Bobcats led 14-10 after the first and the score was tied at 22-all at the break.

Bryant and CCMS started to get hot in the third as the Rebels went cold. FCMS only managed four points. Bryant, Taylor and West all made a three as the Cats surged ahead, 41-26.

Bryant was there for eight points in the fourth as Clear Creek continued to added to its lead on the way to its 22-point win.

Curtis and McVey added 10 and eight points, respectively, on the day. West and Taylor both scored six, Cooper Farmer and Issac Rellinger totaled four points apiece and Grant Ballew netted two.
