Gilmer Lady Cats drop games to Warriors, Indians

The Gilmer High Lady Cats endured their first losses versus region opponents last week. GHS hosted the White County Warriors Tuesday and had trouble getting shots to fall in a 66-49 loss. Gilmer was in Lumpkin County Friday, and the No. 2 ranked Indians downed the Cats, 67-46.

7th grade Cats rule league tourney

The Clear Creek seventh-grade Lady Cats brought home some basketball hardware last week. CCMS played in the Mountain League tournament in Jasper and posted a 3-0 record to walk away as champions. The Cats met Lumpkin County and topped the Indians 43-41 for the title.

Bobcats roll through area for title

Another area duals wrestling tournament ended with the Gilmer High School Bobcats as the top team. GHS was at North Murray High last Friday for the Area 6-3A event, and the Bobcats posted a 3-0 record for yet another title.

Standard named new GHS football head coach

58 applicants. One interview. One new head football coach. The Gilmer County School System announced last Wednesday that Paul Standard would be the next man to lead the Gilmer High Bobcats. Standard, 58, has 20 seasons of head coaching experience and arrives in Ellijay from St. Pius X.

Tankersley, McCutchen, Bryant join hall

The Gilmer Sports Hall of Fame inducted three new members ahead of the Gilmer High Bobcats’ basketball game last Friday. This year’s class included former GHS athlete Wes Tankersley and support personnel Larry Bryant and Joe K. McCutchen Jr.

GHS Lady Cats remain undefeated vs. region

The Gilmer High Lady Cats improved to 5-0 versus region opponents last week. GHS traveled to Cherokee Bluff Tuesday, and the Bears put up a fight, though the Cats came out on top at the end, 53-47. Gilmer hit the road again Saturday.

Clear Creek Bobcats snatch four more wins on hardwood

The Clear Creek Bobcats closed out their regular season on the basketball court last week. Versus Lumpkin County  Monday, the seventh-grade Bobcats won 43-39, while the eighth graders claimed a 36-35 win.  Three days later against Pickens, CCMS seventh graders downed their rival 51-45 in overtime.

GHS Bobcats defeat West Hall for region triumph

Gilmer High returned to the basketball court for three region games last week. The Bobcats traveled to Cherokee Bluff Tuesday and a slow second quarter resulted in a 74-36 loss to the Bears. GHS was at home Friday and defeated the West Hall Spartans, 75-61.

CCMS Lady Cats topple Lumpkin County Indians

The Clear Creek Lady Cats were in action last week against the Lumpkin County Indians. The seventh-grade Cats secured a 34-29 win Monday with a strong second half. Clear Creek eighth graders did the opposite and jumped ahead early on their way to a 38-21 win.
