CCMS Lady Cats topple Lumpkin County Indians

The Clear Creek Lady Cats were in action last week against the Lumpkin County Indians.

The seventh-grade Cats secured a 34-29 win Monday with a strong second half. Clear Creek eighth graders did the opposite and jumped ahead early on their way to a 38-21 win.

After falling behind 14-8 following a quarter, CCMS seventh graders spent two quarters clawing their way back. The Cats outscored LCMS 8-5 ahead of halftime to cut the deficit to 19-16.

Both teams had trouble finding the bottom of the net in the third, and LCMS clung to a 23-22 edge with seven minutes to play.

Lady Cats Bree Burnette, Chelsey Griggs, Gracie Pritchett, Addie Vick and Jaylee McDaniel all scored points in the fourth to help CCMS claim the lead and come away with a five-point win.

Pritchett scored 10 points for CCMS and was followed by McDaniel (eight), Griggs (six), Burnette and Vick (four each) and Grace Giatanoglou (two).

Aliza Chastain led the way for the eighth graders with 13 points as both Burnette and Madison Bradshaw scored nine for CCMS.

Burnette, Chastain, Bradshaw and Grace Bramlett all tallied points in the first quarter to spring the Cats to a 15-3 lead.

LCMS was able to improve its offense slightly before the half as the Cats added to their lead for a 27-8 advantage.

Scoring slowed in the second half, and CCMS enjoyed a decisive lead throughout en route to its 17-point win.

A week prior, the seventh-grade Cats fell to Fannin 29-27, while CCMS eighth graders lost, 37-31.
