GHS Lady Cats are region runners-up once again

For the second season in a row, the Gilmer High Lady Cats finished as region runners-up. GHS traveled to Lumpkin County last Tuesday to take on the No. 2 ranked Indians for the title.  Following a sluggish start, Gilmer came alive in the second half thanks to turnovers with its full-court press.

GHS baseball retools pitching staff in 2021

Gilmer High baseball is back on the diamond after only playing 13 games a season ago. The Bobcats posted a 3-10 record and return three varsity starters in 2021. Not only was Gilmer’s season cut short last year, but the COVID-19 pandemic also interfered with the Bobcats’ seasonal preparations.

Gilmer High cheer finishes 16th in Class 3A

Gilmer High was one of 32 teams in attendance at last week’s state cheerleading competition. The event was held at the Macon Coliseum Tuesday, and GHS scored 60 points to finish in the middle of the pack in 16th.

Freshman Farist finishes first

One of the most storied wrestling dynasties in Georgia has achieved another program first. At last week’s Class 3A traditional state tournament, Gilmer High freshman Carson Farist completed his undefeated season with a state title.

Gilmer High Lady Cats return to region title game

The Gilmer High Lady Cats are heading back to the state basketball tournament. GHS secured its state spot after earning a pair of wins in last week’s Region 7-3A tournament. The No. 3 seeded Cats hosted the No. 6 seeded Cherokee Bluff Bears Thursday and won easily, 67-40.  The Cats faced No.

GHS Bobcats’ season ends

The Gilmer High Bobcats entered last week’s Region 7-3A basketball tournament as the No. 6 seed. GHS hosted the No. 7 seeded West Hall Spartans to kick off the event Tuesday. Even though GHS was without one of its top scorers Cade Carter, the Bobcats had one of their top offensive performances.
Gilmer won its 17th consecutive traditional area championship last Saturday at home. The state tournament will get under way Wednesday and wrap up Thursday night.

Gilmer qualifies 14 wrestlers for state

All 14 of Gilmer High School’s wrestlers qualified for the traditional state tournament. They punched their tickets to state last Saturday at the Area 6-3A tournament. GHS hosted the event and welcomed North Murray, Murray County and Dawson County high schools.

GHS Lady Cats post 15-5 regular season mark

The Gilmer Lady Cats were on the court for three region basketball games last week. GHS traveled to North Hall Tuesday and defeated the Trojans 48-38 on their home court. The following night Gilmer hosted the No. 2 ranked Lumpkin County Indians and lost, 70-60.

Gilmer High School cheerleaders are heading back to the state finals. GHS qualified for the event at last Saturday’s region competition, which also served as sectionals.

Bobcats finish 6th, host West Hall next

The Gilmer High Bobcats have secured their seed ahead of the region basketball tournament. GHS closed out the regular season last Tuesday versus the North Hall Trojans before hosting the Cherokee Bluff Bears Friday.
