Gilmer tennis tops Dawson

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats notched region wins on the tennis court last week. Gilmer met the Dawson County Tigers on the road Thursday, and the Bobcats won 4-1 as the Lady Cats secured a 3-2 victory. The Bobcats picked up three wins on the singles court led by No.

GHS track attends 1st invitational of season

Gilmer High’s track and field season continued last Saturday. GHS attended the 12-team Southeast High Invitational in Dalton. The Lady Cats achieved 12 point-scoring placements and topped out at 69 for fifth in the girls standings.

Gilmer Lady Cats fall to Spartans

Gilmer High’s basketball season has concluded. The GHS Lady Cats were unceremoniously eliminated from the Class 3A basketball tournament by the defending state champion Greater Atlanta Christian School Spartans.

GHS baseball notches two wins on diamond

The Gilmer High Bobcats continued their nonregion baseball schedule last week and posted a 2-2 record. GHS traveled to Union County Monday and lost an extra inning game to the Panthers, 7-6. The Cats were on the road again Thursday versus Pickens and the Dragons won, 13-3.

Bobcats sweep Pickens

The Gilmer High Bobcats sent rival Pickens back to Jasper with a loss. The two met on the tennis court last Tuesday, and the Bobcats swept the Dragons, 5-0. The Lady Cats dropped their match to the Dragonettes, 3-2.

Gilmer nipped by White County, 2-1

Gilmer High kicked off its region soccer schedule last week against the No. 8 ranked White County Warriors. GHS hosted the Warriors Wednesday, and WCHS broke the tie 10 minutes into the second half and held on for a 2-1 victory.

Track season opens with battle of Hwy. 515

The high school track season got under way at home for Gilmer High School. GHS hosted Hwy. 515 foes Union, Fannin and Pickens high schools last Thursday. The hometown Lady Cats landed in second in the girls standings while the Bobcats placed fourth.

GHS Lady Cats fall to No. 2 ranked Warriors

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were tasked with playing the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A to begin region play. GHS hosted the White County Warriors last Wednesday and were on the defensive for most of the night.
Gilmer High junior Payton Woodring attended the GHSA state swim meet Feb. 2 at Georgia Tech. She placed second in both the 200- freestyle and 100-yard backstroke in Class 3A.

Gilmer’s Woodring places 2nd at state

Gilmer High junior Payton Woodring returned home from the state swim meet with two medals. Woodring attended the event Feb. 2 at Georgia Tech and competed in Class 3A. In both the 200- freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, she was narrowly defeated by  Westminster swimmers.
