Gilmer track runs at Dalton Rotary

Gilmer High track and field attended the always competitive Ronnie McClurg Dalton Rotary Invitational Saturday.

The annual event attracted 10 schools, and the GHS Lady Cats finished sixth with 58 points. The Bobcats topped out at 27 points to place ninth on the boys side.

The Lady Cats and Bobcats combined for 27 top-10 placements that were integral to their team scores. 

Lady Cat Taylor McCormick had one of the top performances at the event. She cleared 5’ 4” in the high jump to take first by 6 inches.

The Cats’ 4x400 relay team turned in the fastest time of 4:26.14.

Lady Cat Reagan Boling earned a runner-up placement in the long jump at 14’ 11 1/2”. Teammate Emily Hancock topped out at 7’ 6” for third in the pole vault, and Jocelyn Birko secured the same position in the discus throw with a toss of 83’ 5”.

Naomi Coombs placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:52.15, and Birko heaved the shot put 28’ 10” for sixth.

Sierra Ellis crossed the finish line 13.59 for seventh in the 100-meter dash. She also placed ninth in the 200-meter run (28.86) and 10th in the discus (71’ 5”). Hancock posted a time of 55.18 for sixth in the 300-meter hurdles and was seventh 100-meter hurdles (18.62).

Eighth-place finishers included Boling in the 200 meters (28.80) and McCormick in the 400 (1:10.36), while Amalia Perez placed 10th in the 400 (1:12.97).

The Lady Cats’ 4x100 relay team finished in 26.10 for eighth place.

Aspen Hataway led the way for the Bobcats. His 10’ mark in the pole vault allowed him to place second. Teammate Logan Ellis launched the discus 122’ 7” for third place.

Gilmer’s Carson Purvis claimed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:05.82. He also finished ninth in the 400 meters (55.92).

Gilmer’s 4x100 relay team was fourth with a time of 3:49.92, and the 4x400 squad placed 10th in 48.36.

Landing in eighth were Dylan Byrd, 3,200 meters (11:07.73); Carson Hughes, 110 hurdles (19.68) and Luke Bryant, discus (101’ 10”). John Keener placed ninth in both the 1,600 meters (5:02.51) and pole vault (8’ 6”).
