GHS Bobcats get region baseball win

Gilmer High baseball continued region play last week and were able to get back into the win column. GHS faced the White County Warriors for a three-game series over the course of the week. Game one was at home Monday and GHS fell, 15-2.

Lady Cats’ soccer mauls Spartans, 6-0

The Gilmer Lady Cats were constantly on the attack and were rewarded with six goals. GHS hosted the West Hall Spartans last Friday for a one-sided soccer match. The Lady Cats blasted 36 shots on the night and were in control from the start for a 6-0 win.

Bobcats drop region match to West Hall

The Gilmer Bobcats squared off against the West Hall Spartans last week ahead of spring break. The Bobcats hosted the region soccer match Friday and were able to garner a one-goal lead at halftime.

GHS faces local golf rivals

Seasonal rains have made the Gilmer High  golf season sloppy and uncertain. Matches and practices have continually been canceled or postponed, but the Bobcats and Lady Cats were able to take on a pair of rivals over the past two weeks.
Gilmer’s newly crowned All-American wrestlers Dylan Galloway (above) and Tony Olea (below). The duo competed in the Nuway Nationals Winter Throne, and Galloway placed third in the 220-pound weight division and Olea was the runner-up at 285.

Olea, Galloway become All-Americans

A pair of Gilmer High School junior wrestlers have been named All-Americans. Heavyweight Tony Olea and 220-pounder Dylan Galloway earned the distinction at the Nuway Nationals Winter Throne in Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 6.

West Hall holds GHS Bobcats’ bats in check

The Gilmer Bobcats’ offense was held in check last week and the West Hall Spartans did enough to earn three wins on the diamond. The Bobcats were limited to nine hits over the course of the three-game series.

Gilmer Cats fall to Bears, 5-2

The Gilmer Lady Cats continued their region soccer slate last week versus the Cherokee Bluff Bears. GHS made the trip to CBHS Wednesday, and a strong second half allowed the hometown Bears to come away with a win.

Cherokee Bluff too much for GHS Bobcats

Gilmer Bobcat soccer hit the road last Wednesday and ran into a ravenous bunch of Cherokee Bluff Bears. CBHS built a three-goal lead by halftime and netted five more in the second half to claim a 9-1 victory over Gilmer. “They were very good and had a strong squad.

GHS wins two more, earns No. 9 ranking

The Gilmer Bobcats picked up two more soccer victories and are now ranked in the top 10. GHS hosted North Murray last Monday and downed the Mountaineers, 2-1. The Bobcats returned to region action on the road Friday versus the North Hall Trojans.

Union defeats Gilmer

The Gilmer Bobcats were set to play a pair of nonregion baseball games last week but heavy rains cut that in half. GHS hosted Union County Monday, and a five-run third inning put the Panthers ahead, and they held off the Bobcats over the reminder of the game for an 8-5 victory.
