Gilmer High tennis took to the court for two more region matches last week.
The Bobcats improved to 4-1 in region play with wins against White County (5-0) and Lumpkin County (3-2). The GHS Lady Cats have a 3-2 mark versus region foes after defeating White (4-1) before a loss to Lumpkin by the same score.
The match versus White was at home Tuesday, and all of the Bobcats won in straight sets.
Bobcat winners on the singles court included Brett Becker (6-0, 6-0), Kaden Reece (6-1, 6-0) and Bryson Sisson (6-2, 6-3). GHS doubles Isaac Bradshaw and Law Lykins (6-2, 6-3) and Gavin Berger and Ethan Cole (6-0, 6-1) completed the team sweep.
Lady Cats Hope Colwell and Beth Burnette both won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively. Emma Callihan did not lose a game in her commanding win.
Gilmer’s No. 2 doubles Ellie Teague and Jenna Cole secured the fourth win on the day 6-1, 6-4.
The top doubles team of Morgan White and Jessica Futch won the opening set, 6-2. They dropped the second 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker) and the third, 6-3.
The Bobcats’ victory over Lumpkin was cemented on the singles court. Becker won easily again 6-0, 6-1, as did Sisson 6-3, 6-1. Reece earned wins of 6-1 in both the first and third sets with a 6-4 loss in the second.
Berger and Cole claimed an opening set win of 6-3, but lost the next two 7-5, 7-5. Bobcats Bradshaw and Lykins were defeated 6-3, 7-5.
Callihan snagged the Lady Cats’ only victory over the Indians 6-4, 6-4. Colwell won her second set by the same margin, but lost the first and third 6-1, 6-3. Burnette lost 6-3, 6-4.
Lumpkin completed its victory on the No. 1 doubles court 6-1, 6-4 over White and Futch. Teague and Cole lost both sets. 6-2.
The Lady Cats have a 6-7 overall record while the Bobcats are 8-5.
