GHS Bobcat tennis improves to 5-1 vs. region

Gilmer High tennis took to the court for two more region matches last week. The Bobcats improved to 4-1 in region play with wins against White County (5-0) and Lumpkin County (3-2).

Gilmer track runs at Dalton Rotary

Gilmer High track and field attended the always competitive Ronnie McClurg Dalton Rotary Invitational Saturday. The annual event attracted 10 schools, and the GHS Lady Cats finished sixth with 58 points. The Bobcats topped out at 27 points to place ninth on the boys side.

GHS Lady Cat golfers best NMHS

Gilmer golfers were in Chatsworth last Monday to face a pair of local foes. Murray County and North Murray high schools squared off against Gilmer Monday at Spring Lakes Golf Course before the week’s rain showers arrived.  The GHS Lady Cats were the top girls team with a three-person score of 154.

Gilmer soccer drops overtime battle

The Gilmer Lady Cats suffered a pair of soccer losses last week. GHS was at home Monday against the North Murray Mountaineers. The marathon game resulted with a needed overtime and penalty kicks and NMHS earned the win.

GHS tennis serves loss to Pickens

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats rolled to rivalry and region tennis victories last week. GHS traveled to Pickens Tuesday and the Bobcats earned a 5-0 win while the Lady Cats came out on top, 4-1. At West Hall Friday, both Gilmer squads won without losing a set.

Bobcat soccer wins two more games

The Gilmer High Bobcats picked up two more soccer wins last week. GHS hosted the Trion Bulldogs for a nonregion match Tuesday before the Lumpkin County Indians came to town Friday. Gilmer disposed of Trion (3-2) and toppled Lumpkin (4-1) for a region win to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Fannin, Pickens take down Cats

Gilmer High baseball met a pair of old rivals last week and came up just short. The GHS Bobcats traveled to Fannin County Tuesday and the Rebels claimed a low-scoring victory, 1-0. FCHS brought its bats to Ellijay the next day and topped GHS, 13-3.

5 GHS basketball players voted all-region

Five Gilmer High basketball players were voted to all-region basketball teams. On the girls side, first-team selections included senior guards Hope Colwell and Emma Callihan and junior post player Elly Callihan. Senior post player Emma Deyton received an honorable mention.

GHS golf begins season vs. Dawson

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats made their way to Chestatee Golf Club last Thursday. GHS faced the Dawson County Tigers and nine holes were played to decide a winner. The Lady Cats won the girls match 162-172 while the Bobcats fell, 164-236.

GHS Lady Cats crush Bulldogs, 6-0

The Gilmer Lady Cats continually fired shots during their senior night soccer match against the Trion Bulldogs. GHS hosted Trion last Tuesday, and the Lady Cats’ offense was momentarily slowed but hardly contained.
