Mrs. Velma Stanley

Mrs. Velma Stanley, 76, of Talking Rock, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. She was born in Cullowhee, N.C., Dec. 4, 1944, to the late Daniel Boone Shook and Julie Brown Shook. She was retired from Gilmer County Schools and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Jane Miller Robinson

Mrs. Jane Miller Robinson, 63, of Ellijay, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, due to complications of cancer. To honor her wishes, she was cremated and services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Norma Ruth Miller Shinkle

We regretfully announce the passing of Norma Ruth Miller Shinkle, 79, of Ellijay. She died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. She was born to Norman Ard and Josephine Nicholas Tate Miller Jan. 16, 1942, in Kentwood, La. An independent and vibrant personality from the beginning, she was an excellent student.

Mrs. Karen Joyce Star

Mrs. Karen Joyce Star, 75, of Ellijay, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at her residence. She was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Albany, N.Y., to the late Kenneth and Evangeline (Russo) Starin. She was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a flight medic in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. David Anthony LaScala

Dr. David Anthony LaScala, 62, of Ellijay, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. He was born in Brunswick, Sept. 5, 1959, to the late Vincent LaScala and Mary Catherine Morh LaScala.

Robert Glenn Gunter

Mr. Robert Glenn Gunter, 68, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. He was born in Cherokee County Jan. 31, 1953, to the late James Wesley Gunter and Flora Hendrix Gunter. He was an accomplished musician and was a member of Mountain Life Baptist Church.

Mrs. Evadna ‘Sue’ Claudette Stafford Stokes

Mrs. Evadna “Sue” Claudette (Stafford) Stokes, 83 of Ellijay, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. She was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Sylvania, to the late Carson and Claudine Stafford and was a member of First Methodist Church of Ellijay. Sue is preceded in death by husband, William “Bill” Stokes.

Vernon Jasper Holt

Mr. Vernon Jasper Holt, 94, of Ellijay, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at home with his wife of 77 years by his side. He was a native of Riverdale, and was born to the late V. J. and Ina Rackley Holt March 27, 1927.

Mrs. Edna Lynne Long Rich

Mrs. Edna Lynne (Long) Rich, 62, of Ellijay, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. She was born to J.L. and Katherine Betty (Densmore) Long in Dalton. She graduated from North West Whitfield High School in 1976. She is preceded in death by daughter, Heather Renee Rich, father J.L.

William ‘Sammy’ Allen Craig

William “Sammy” Allen Craig, 55, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021. He was born Dec. 26, 1965, in Ellijay, to the late Lewis I. and Grace Rice Craig. He was a member of the Happy Valley Church in Ellijay.
