We regretfully announce the passing of Norma Ruth Miller Shinkle, 79, of Ellijay.

She died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. She was born to Norman Ard and Josephine Nicholas Tate Miller Jan. 16, 1942, in Kentwood, La.

An independent and vibrant personality from the beginning, she was an excellent student. She graduated from high school with flying colors and immediately went on to study food service administration at Southeastern Louisiana College.

After graduating from Southeastern in 1965 with a degree in commercial home economics, she moved to Florida and began a career in food service administration for Morrison’s Cafeteria. Shortly after beginning her career, she met Galen in Florida.

She and Galen spent their days together and were deeply devoted to each other for 50 years.

She retired after more than 30 years in food service administration and social services and enjoyed crafts, crocheting and was an active member of Gates Chapel United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

She is preceded in death by parents, Norman and Josephine Miller; brother-in-law, Steve Floyd Greener; and great-nephew, Nicholas Greener.

She is survived by husband, Galen Floyd Shinkle, of Ellijay; sister, Joyce Elaine Miller Greener, of Ringgold; brother-in-law, Irvin Shinkle; and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews and special friends, Stephen and Kathy Igou, of Ellijay.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at Logan’s Funeral Home & Chapel in Ellijay.
