Gilmer High volleyball closed out its regular season Tuesday Oct. 4 in Blue Ridge.
GHS faced rival Fannin County, and the match needed five sets to decide a winner. The Rebels won the first two sets before the Cats took the next two. FCHS claimed the match with a fifth set win.
“After closely falling to Fannin the first two sets (25-22, 25-20), we came back to claim the next two sets (25-17, 25-21) forcing a fifth and final set,” said head coach Donna Parks. “Playing point-by-point until the end, we lost in the fifth set, 15-10.”
Taylor McCormick led GHS with 10 kills as Adrian Thompson, Brooke Wilson and Anneliese Vaughn all finished with eight. Libby Pike contributed five kills and Hali Hice was there for three. Thompson and McCormick led the way with four aces apiece.
Thompson added 18 digs, 15 assists and three blocks. Vaughn tallied 17 digs and 16 assists. Remaining digs belonged to Wilson (16), McCormick and (13) Gracie Cain and Pike (five). Hice had three blocks and three digs.
McCormick also blocked two Rebel hits and assisted two points while Cain had two assists as well.
Gilmer was on the road last week for the Region 7-3A tournament. The double elimination event saw the Cats suffer 2-1 losses to Dawson and Lumpkin counties. The defeats dropped Gilmer’s overall record to 6-23 for the season.
