Rec football season wraps up Saturday at home
Gilmer’s sixth graders have advanced to the Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship.
The Bobcats punched their ticket to the title game with a 12-8 semifinal victory over Fannin County last Saturday. The previously undefeated Rebels entered the day allowing nine points per game.
Also reaching the semifinals but falling short of the championship game were Gilmer’s second and third graders. The second-grade Cats were seeded No. 4 and fell to No. 1 Dawson County (18-8). The No. 3 seed third-grade Bobcats were defeated by No. 2 Lumpkin County (13-0).
Two of Gilmer’s six teams ended their season with a winning record. The third graders were 5-3, and both second and fifth were 3-4, first graders finished 1-5 and fourth grade posted a 0-7 mark.
Gilmer (5-3) will host White County (7-1) Saturday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium for the sixth-grade championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
