Lady Cats claw ’Dogs

The Gilmer Lady Cats came away with a nonregion basketball victory in their return to the court. While their game last Tuesday versus Southeast Whitfield was postponed because of possible inclement weather, GHS made its way to Murphy, N.C., Saturday to face the Bulldogs.

Bobcats get another win before continuing region schedule

The Gilmer Bobcats took down the Murphy, N.C., Bulldogs once again. The two teams squared off last Saturday, and this time the Bobcats were the ones who had to travel. While the game’s location changed, the outcome did not, and this time around GHS snatched an 80-67 win.

GHS grapplers win 4 matches ahead of area

The Gilmer Bobcats did not have to travel far for their latest tuneup. With the Area 7-3A duals on the horizon, GHS hosted the annual Bobcat Duals last Friday.

Cats ransack Raiders 81-31 to end tournament

The Gilmer Bobcats notched a decisive basketball win to cap Christmas break. GHS was in Pickens last week for the Dragons’ Christmas tournament, and they took the court Wednesday against Lassiter. The Class 6A Trojans took an early lead and never looked back in a 76-63 win.

Jackson McVey was a one-man wrecking crew for the Gilmer Bobcats. GHS hosted the Sonoraville Phoenix last Tuesday ahead of Christmas break. Not only did Gilmer avenge its earlier loss to the Phoenix but did so with McVey scoring a season-high 45 points.

CCMS eighth-grade Bobcats wreck Ramblers

The Clear Creek Bobcats hit the court for three Christmas tournament games outside of their league schedule. The event was held at Christian Heritage School Dec. 16-17, and the Bobcats posted a 1-2 record. After defeating LaFayette 54-48, CCMS met the host Lions and lost, 41-23.

Gilmer Bobcats face more tough tests on mat

Gilmer Bobcat wrestlers tested their mettle once more. GHS was in Rome last Wednesday and Thursday for the Garvin Edward’s Hall of Fame Classic. The 24-team event was fiercely competitive at the top of each bracket, and GHS finished fifth as a team with 136 points.

GHS drops Lumpkin for 3rd region win

Gilmer High continued its region schedule and split with opponents for the second week in a row. GHS started the week last Tuesday in Lumpkin County. Fouls brought the game to a standstill, and the pace favored the Indians.

Clear Creek crowned Mountain League champions

Clear Creek wrestling added some more hardware to its trophy case. The CCMS Bobcats attended the Mountain League’s dual and traditional tournaments Dec. 9-10. On the first night, the Bobcats captured the duals championship with wins over White County (51-36) and Lumpkin County (52-30).
