McVey attracts preseason attention

The days of Jackson McVey flying under the radar are long gone. The 7’ 0” Gilmer High School center is set to take the basketball court for his junior campaign, and he spent the offseason honing his game while attracting the attention of college coaches and media outlets. Cam Rickers of PrepHoops.

Gilmer cross-country season concludes

Gilmer High cross-country runners closed out their season. GHS was in Helen last Thursday for the Region 7-3A Championships at Unicoi State Park. The Bobcats and Lady Cats each placed sixth in their respective team standings. The top five times counted toward the team score.

GHS cheer turns in best score

Gilmer High School cheer received a final tune-up ahead of its biggest competition so far. GHS traveled to Chestatee High School last Saturday and achieved its highest score of the season.  It was close at the top of the standing as only four points separated the second through fifth place teams.

Bobcats eye playoff return

The Gilmer Bobcats have nearly secured their spot in the football state playoffs. GHS inched closer to its first postseason appearance since 2014 by defeating Dawson County last Friday.

GHS cheer shows more improvement

Gilmer High cheerleaders returned to the mat for their third competition. GHS was at Woodstock High School last Saturday as cheerleaders sharpened their routine in preparation for upcoming region and state competitions. Cheerleaders continued to make strides and scored a 55.

Bobcats streak past Dragons

The streak is over. Gilmer High hosted archrival Pickens last Friday, and the Dragons had no answer for the Bobcats’ rushing attack. GHS racked up 329 yards on the ground, and most of it came by attacking the heart of the Dragons’ defense.

CCMS 7th graders capture league title

Clear Creek football took the field for a pair of league championship games. The seventh-grade Bobcats hosted Lumpkin County last Wednesday, and four quarters were not enough to decide a winner. CCMS made short work of the Indians in overtime and walked away with an 8-6 victory.
