The annual Tiger Plunge gave Gilmer High swimmers another chance to achieve state qualifying times.
GHS was in Adairsivlle last Saturday for the meet, and 15 teams were in attendance. In the boys 100-yard butterfly, no one was faster than Gilmer’s Jacob Kucera. His first-place time was 1:00.87, and he finished the 50-yard freestyle in 23.69 for fourth.
Teammate Cheyne Smith took fifth in the 100 free (58.65), and he was sixth in the 50 free (25.25). Clifford Defoor also competed for the Bobcats in the 100 (44th place, 2:13.13) and 50 (79th, 1:04.11) freestyle events.
Evan May led the way for the Lady Cats in the 100 free (fifth, 1:12.95) and was trailed by teammates Elizabeth Kucera (13th, 1:15.93) and Lana Ginger (29th, 1:30.49). Kucera was also ninth in the 200-yard individual medley (3:21.26).
In the 50 free, GHS placements and times were secured by May (14th, 32.03), Ginger (43rd, 38.38) and Rosalie Ballew (66th, 57.18).
Esther Bowman, Ginger, Ballew and Kucera teamed up for 14th in the 200 free relay in 2:46.47.
The Bobcats finished 11th with 62 team points. Adairsville (371), Union Grove (233) and Whitewater (205) were the top three boys teams.
Union Grove was first in the girls standings over Whitewater, 325-234. Cartersville placed third (221), and the Lady Cats (38) were 12th.
GHS will make its way to Murphy High Schoo, N.C., Saturday for its next meet.
