With the holiday right around the corner, Gilmer High swimmers were in Adairsville for the annual Thankful to Compete swim meet.
Seven GHS swimmers made the trip last Saturday, and they combined for six top-five placements.
Jacob Kucera represented the Bobcats, and he scored 31 team points in a pair of events. His time of 24.28 in the 50-yard freestyle secured third place. In the 100-yard butterfly, he touched the wall in 1:03.06 for fourth.
Esther Bowman had another good day for the Lady Cats. She was a runner-up in the 50 free (29.91) and turned in a third-place time of 1:27:37 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
She was also a member of the fourth-place (2:31.65) 200-yard medley relay team along with Evan May, Elizabeth Kucera and Yana Jones. Rosalie Ballew and Lana Ginger joined Bowman and Kucera for the 200 free relay for a time of 2:44.57 for 13th. Evan May clocked in at 1:24.74 for third in the 100 backstroke.
Jones led the way among the remaining Gilmer swimmers in the 50 free, and she placed 13th in 32.19. Other Lady Cat times and placements included Kucera (15th place, 32.74), May (16th, 33.88), Ginger (41st, 42.57) and Ballew (54th, 57.86).
In the 100 free, Jones finished in ninth place (1:17.53) and Ginger took 27th (1:43.72).
The Lady Cats finished sixth out of 13 girls teams with 101 points. Ola (366) won the meet ahead of Union Grove (319) and Adairsville (224) in the top three.
The same schools made up the top three boys teams. Adairsville (370) was followed by Union Grove (312) and Ola (290).
