GHS Lady Cats topple Spartans

Gilmer split with region foes to end the season. The Gilmer High Lady Cats played its final two softball games on the road, and they were in West Hall last Tuesday.  GHS errors aided the Spartans’ cause, but the Cats came through with late-inning hits for a 6-5 victory.

Gilmer High cheer competes at Creekview

Gilmer High School cheerleaders continued their competitive season in Canton. GHS made its way to Creekview High School last Saturday and faced some stiff competition. Defending state champions Savannah Christian was in Gilmer’s division and finished first.

GHS cross-country wins N. Murray 5K

Gilmer High cross-country runners left Murray County with a pair of first-place finishes. GHS was at North Murray High School last Thursday for its final 5K of the regular season. In addition to the host Mountaineers, the Murray County Indians were in attendance.

Lumpkin Co. ends Lady Cats’ volleyball season

Gilmer High’s volleyball season came to a close at the region tournament. The GHS Lady Cats were on the road for all three matches. First up was Wesleyan, who defeated the Cats and sent them to the consolation bracket.

No. 6 ranked Lumpkin Co. downs GHS

The Lumpkin County Indians gave Gilmer fits on both sides of the football. The Gilmer High Bobcats made the trip to Dahlonega last Friday, and the Indians controlled the line of scrimmage to control the scoreboard.

Gilmer High enters final week of softball season

The Gilmer Lady Cats dropped both of their region softball matchups. The Cats were in Jasper last Monday to take on rival Pickens. While the Dragonettes only managed four hits, costly GHS errors led to four unearned runs. GHS played from behind all game and lost, 6-2.

CCMS back in championship

Clear Creek football is set for a return to the championship game. The eighth-grade Bobcats hosted Union County in the semifinals last Tuesday and sent the Panthers back to Blairsville with a 42-20 loss. The seventh-grade Cats welcomed Fannin County to Ellijay the following day.

Clear Creek closed out its softball season at the Mountain League Tournament. The CCMS Lady Cats faced top-seeded White County in the semifinals last Monday at Meek’s Park in Blairsville.

Gilmer’s World Series all-stars

Local baseball players Bradley Burgess and Riley Wooten took the field for the 11-under Hitting Lab’s “Lab Rats” during the summer and were named all-stars. They went on to play in the FPB World Series in Augusta over Labor Day weekend and finished third out of nine teams.

Hataway was Gilmer’s top tackler on the night with 19, Chancey finished with 11, Cronic had nine and Banks made six stops. Hayden Morrison (12, in background) was there for eight total tackles.

Bobcats smash Spartans, 35-6

After a shaky start, the Bobcats pulled it together. Gilmer High hosted West Hall for homecoming last Friday with a full moon overhead. The Bobcats took the field in all-black uniforms, and the one-win Spartans were in prime position to take a two-score lead in the opening quarter.
