‘Pressure is privilege’ for 19-time state champions

Gilmer High School enters the wrestling season with plenty of questions, but head coach Josh Ghobadpoor believes he has a hardworking group with some answers. The Bobcats are fresh off back-to-back traditional state championships, and the program’s overall tally now stands at 19.

Gilmer High’s girls wrestling program has continued to flourish as the sport grows in Georgia. GHS made plenty of noise last season and finished among the state’s best. Competing against teams from all classifications, GHS placed third in the first-ever duals state tournament.

CCMS 8th grade Lady Cats off to 3-0 start

Clear Creek Middle School had a busy week on the basketball court. The Bobcats and Lady Cats played 10 combined games over a four-day span and secured seven wins.   Lady Cats The eighth-grade is 3-0 on the season and at White County last Monday.

Clear Creek blasts Union

Clear Creek wrestlers defended their home turf against Union County. Clear Creek’s Jaxon Crater works on taking down his Union County opponent last Tuesday. The Panthers were in town last Tuesday, and the Bobcats won nine of 16 bouts.

Bobcats back in playoffs

For the third game in a row, Gilmer High found itself in a tight region football battle. The GHS Bobcats were in White County last Friday to end the regular season, and the two teams took turns scoring in the second half.

The sixth annual alumni wrestling night attracted plenty of fans to the Gilmer High gym. Nineteen intrasquad bouts took place as the Bobcat faithful got a preview of the back-to-back defending Class 3A traditional state champions.

Second-grade Bobcats in title game

Above are Gilmer second-grade football players and coaches who have advanced to the championship. The Bobcats entered the playoffs as a No. 4 seed and upset top-seeded Pickens last Saturday, 6-0. The win avenged a loss to the Dragons from the previous week.

Gilmer opens swim season

The Battle of Dalton beckoned Gilmer High swimmers to begin the season. The Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the seven-team meet last Saturday and secured a pair of third-place times for their best placements of the day. One of those third-place finishes came in the girls 200-yard medley relay.

Gilmer High cheerleaders were in Morgan County for their final competition of the season.  It was the region event that also determined which teams advanced to this week’s state finals, and Gilmer scored a 61 to place third in the standings.

8th grade Cats top Union Co.

The Clear Creek Lady Cats snatched a win to begin the basketball season. CCMS hosted Union County last Wednesday, and the Panthers got the better of the Cats in the seventh-grade matchup, 47-25. Clear Creek turned the tables in the eighth-grade game.
