The Bobcats and Lady Cats hit the track for the final meet of the season in front of their home fans.
GHS welcomed four teams to Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Tuesday for senior night. The Lady Cats were runners-up as Fannin County slipped ahead for first, 81.5-79. The Bobcats scored points in five events for fourth place among boys teams.
The Lady Cats won four events on their side and proved to be the top throwers at the meet. Amayah Jones’ toss of 35’ 5” was tops in the shot put, while teammate Lilyan Cook (28’ 9”) came in third. Cook had the No. 1 mark of 92’ 10” in the discus, and Maddy Patterson was third at 74’ 9”.
Jones showed off her speed on the track as well with a first-place time of 13.4 in the 100-meter dash. Lady Cat Aliza Chastain nabbed third at 13:9. In the 4x100, Gilmer’s Kayleigh Robbins, Addie Vick, Chastain and Jones teamed up for first in 53.93.
The Bobcats owned the pole vault and scored all available team points. Aspen Hataway cleared 12’ 6’ for first and was followed by teammates John Keener (12’) and Matthew Grice (11’ 6”). Dylan Pospisil accounted for best leap in the triple jump at 37’ 3”.
Bobcat Douglas Callihan’s heave of 37’ 11” placed him third in the shot put, and Cooper Williams secured the same placement in the high jump at 4’ 10”. The Bobcats were second in the 4x400 relay. The team of Michael Little, Keener, Leeland Dantin and James Beach finished in 4:31.37.
The Lady Cats were also third in the 4x400 as Robbins, Vick, Chastain and Kenzie Sewell turned in a time of 3:48.85. Dulce Mares clocked in at 1:04.02 for third in the 300-meter hurdles for the Cats’ final points in running events.
Robbins was the No. 2 long jumper (14’ 6”) and triple jumper (20’ 10”) at the event. Sewell placed in the high jump once again and cleared 4’ 10” for third.
Behind Fannin and GHS in the girls standings were Dawson County (72), Lumpkin County (44.5) and Pickens (32). Fannin (101.5) was the No. 1 boys team followed by Lumpkin (83), Dawson (69), GHS (41) and Pickens (29.5).
