Noah Harris Center relocated as facilities shuffled

The Noah Harris Center is just one facet of the current athletic undertakings by the Gilmer County School System.  The spoils of the special purpose local option sales tax will finance facility reshuffling designed to streamline operations, while other locations are receiving a face-lift.

Summer vacation has arrived for the county’s students, and Gilmer High School will hold its annual slate of summer youth sports camps, which began this week. Cheerleading camp will be June 12-15 at the Clear Creek Elementary School gym from 9 a.m. to noon.

Summer swim starts Thursday

For the first season in six years, members of the Gilmer County Swim Team were able to practice at their own facility after the pool was rebuilt. Gilmer will attend meets at the Cherokee Aquatic Center Thursday and Saturday.

Aspen Hataway made his mark at Gilmer High across three sports, and he will continue his football career at the next level. Hataway walked across Pettit Field for the final time as a GHS student during last Friday’s commencement  ceremony.

May named Gilmer High’s ‘Positive Athlete’

For the 10th consecutive year, the Positive Athlete organization has named their regional award winners for the northwest Georgia region, and Gilmer High School swimmer Evan May was selected.

6 GHS baseball players voted all-region

Six Gilmer High Bobcats were recognized for their exemplary efforts on the baseball field.  All-Region 7-3A baseball squads were unveiled last week, and senior Ethan McCollum and juniors Eli Cooper and Noah Gutillo were selected to the first team.

Gilmer High wraps up productive spring practice

With last football season’s playoff appearance and postseason victory, Gilmer Bobcat football players bore witness to the fruits of their labor. Last Wednesday marked the end of spring practice as the Bobcats have shifted their focus to the upcoming season and prolonging their recent success.

Camps begin in June

Summer vacation is right around the corner for the county’s students, and Gilmer High School will hold its annual slate of summer youth sports camps starting next month. Soccer camp will be June 4-6 at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
