GHS softball hits season’s homestretch

The Gilmer Lady Cats were on the softball field for one game ahead of fall break. Gilmer hosted LaFayette last Monday before the rain arrived, and the Ramblers did just about everything right in the 12-0 win. GHS was down early as LHS struck for three runs in each of the first two innings.

CCMS softball victorious

Clear Creek Middle School closed out the regular softball season with a win and loss ahead of the league tournament. The CCMS Lady Cats were at Lumpkin County Sept. 16 and the Indians squeaked by with a 3-2 victory. A week later, Clear Creek hosted Fannin County and smashed the Rebels, 12-0.

Clear Creek football heads to league playoffs

Clear Creek is ready for the Mountain League football playoffs. Possessions were scarce in the eighth-grade matchup versus Dawson County, and the CCMS Bobcats bullied their way to a 30-0 victory. Clear Creek seventh-graders overcame a shaky start and pulled ahead in the final quarter.

Team Cartecay improves to 5th in league rankings

Team Cartecay set the tone for the state competition at Georgia Cycling Association’s Chase at the Creek with Jubilee Giet singing a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Cats stumble in region opener

The No. 6 ranked Northwest Whitfield Bruins gave Gilmer fits on both sides of the ball. The GHS Bobcats were on the road to begin their region football schedule last Friday. Northwest limited Gilmer’s big play ability off the edge, while the Bruins were able to cash in some explosive touchdowns.

GHS Cats snag region win

The Gilmer Lady Cats captured the region victory they were looking for on the softball diamond. GHS was in Adairsville last Wednesday, and the Cats reversed their fortunes against the hometown Tigers. Gilmer eliminated defensive errors that have plagued them all season.

Westminster Wildcats claw Bobcats

The Westminster Wildcats provided a stout test for Gilmer High as the Bobcats wrapped up their nonregion football schedule. GHS made the trip to Buckhead last Friday, and the Class 4A private school found success through the air and also made pivotal plays on defense and special teams.

GHS volleyball nabs another region win

Gilmer High earned a victory for its second region volleyball triumph of the season. The GHS Lady Cats were at Northwest Whitfield last Monday, and while the host Bruins won in straight sets, Gilmer downed Adairsville, 2-1. The Cats were in Rome two days later and lost to the Wolves, 2-0.

Clear Creek falls to Lumpkin County

Clear Creek hosted Lumpkin County, and the visiting Indians notched two football wins. In the eighth-grade game, three Bobcat turnovers were converted into LCMS touchdowns. CCMS trailed throughout and by as many as 28 points in a 40-18 loss.
