All-Region 7-3A softball teams have been announced, and three Gilmer High Lady Cats were recognized.
Lady Cat Sarah Dale was voted to the first team, and fellow sophomore Jaylee McDaniel was selected to the second team. Junior Lily Fortune received an all-region honorable mention.
Dale roamed center field for GHS and also pitched 28 innings. She was a defensive stalwart with a team-leading .979 fielding percentage and committed just one error on the season. Offensively, she led the Cats with 14 runs batted in and struck out only five times in 74 plate appearances.
Dale had a .300 batting average, collected 18 hits, which included one home run.
McDaniel saw time at multiple positions defensively, and had the top batting average (.350) and the most hits (28). She drove in 10 runs, scored 11 more and pitched 40 1/3 innings.
Fortune was Gilmer’s top pitcher on the season and tossed 90 1/3 innings. She earned four wins, struck out 112, walked 47, allowed 51 earned runs and posted a 3.95 ERA.
At the plate, Fortune hit .304, slugged .430, belted 24 hits and drove in 10 runs.
