Richard wins

Gilmer High runners battled the heat to begin their cross-country season. GHS made its way up Hwy. 515 to Blairsville last Thursday for the annual Run to the Hills 5K. Multiple teams pulled out of the event because of the rising temperatures, and Union County won the boys and girls races.

Yellow Jackets, Ramblers top Lady Cats

Gilmer High was on the field for more region softball action, and they lost three games. The GHS Lady Cats hosted Calhoun last Monday, and the Yellow Jackets took advantage of errors. CHS tamed the Cats’ bats for a 10-0 victory. The LaFayette Ramblers were in town the following day.

CCMS blasts Fannin

Clear Creek softball earned two more wins. The Cats hosted Lumpkin County Aug. 19, and the Indians slipped by for a 2-1 victory. CCMS was in Blue Ridge Aug. 26 and needed only three innings to crush Fannin County, 16-0.  The Cats also secured a nonleague win versus Gladden Aug. 17, 12-0.

Cats host region matches

Gilmer volleyball is still in search of their first region win. The Cats hosted the Heritage Generals and Calhoun Yellow Jackets last Thursday, and the visitors won both matches in two sets. Heritage took the court first against GHS, and the Generals won both sets in commanding fashion, 25-12.

Bobcats dominate Panthers, 33-0

The Gilmer Bobcats steamrolled the Union County Panthers for their first win of the season. GHS hosted the game last Friday to continue its nonregion football schedule, and Union did not have an answer for the Cats on either side of the ball.

Gilmer Lady Cats rout Gordon Central

Gilmer softball had another three-game week and the Cats earned one victory. The GHS Lady Cats were at Gordon Central last Monday, and they only needed four innings to crush the hometown Warriors, 18-0.

CCMS runs over Fannin County

The Clear Creek Bobcats were in Fannin County and they clobbered the Rebels. CCMS continued its league football slate last Wednesday, and the Bobcat defense continually made stops to quell Fannin’s aerial attack.

GHS volleyball drops four more matches

Gilmer High volleyball continued its region schedule after facing a pair of nonregion foes. The GHS Lady Cats were at Chestatee last Tuesday and lost to the host War Eagles and Pickens in straight sets. Gilmer was in Adairsville two days later.

Fannin County races past Bobcats

A muggy afternoon in Ellijay ended with Fannin County beating Gilmer for the second year in a row. The football season was set to begin last Friday evening, but hours of lightning strikes postponed the rivalry tilt until the following morning at 11 a.m.

Gilmer High softball gets back in win column, 5-0

Runs were tough to come by in the Gilmer Lady Cats’ first full region softball series. GHS fell to Ridgeland last Monday before the Cats faced the Heritage Generals Tuesday and Thursday. Gilmer was on the road for the first meeting, and the Cats’ errors spotted HHS three runs.
