GHS Lady Cats finish 11th in state

The Gilmer High Lady Cats ended the cross-country season in the top half of the classification. GHS attended the Class 3A Cross-Country Championship last Saturday in Carrollton. The Cats finished 11th in the field of 24, and all GHS point scorers landed inside the top 100.

CCMS wins 6 more basketball games

Clear Creek Middle School turned in an undefeated week on the basketball court. The Bobcats only took the court last Thursday, and CCMS notched wins over Lumpkin County. The seventh-grade Cats buried the Indians in a 17-point hole at the half and led 40-14 with seven minutes to play.

Bobcats tame toothless Panthers, 27-7

The Gilmer High Bobcats’ state football playoff hopes are still alive. The Cats made their cause for the postseason last Friday at home against the one-win Ridgeland Panthers. GHS excelled on both sides of the ball and built a four-score lead before RHS finally found the end zone.

GHS Lady Cat cross-country returns to state

The Gilmer High School Lady Cats are state bound. GHS cross-country runners were at Helen’s Unicoi State Park last Saturday for the Class 3A north sectional. A top 12 finish was needed, and the Lady Cats nabbed ninth place to extend their season for their first state berth since 2019.

CCMS Bobcats sweep Union, Fannin counties

Gilmer rec football teams met Pickens on the gridiron, and they earned two wins over their southern rival Gilmer hosted Pickens last Saturday, and the third graders earned the first win of the day, 25-0. The victory marked Gilmer’s third in a row. The fifth-grade Cats blanked Pickens as well, 25-0.

Tigers too much for shorthanded Cats

Turnovers and penalties did Gilmer High no favors. The GHS Bobcats were in Adairsville to continue their region football slate last Friday. The Tigers took advantage of Bobcat miscues, and AHS reached the end zone once in every quarter to send the Cats back to Ellijay with a 28-0 defeat.

GHS Lady Cats take 2nd in region

Gilmer High cross-country runners had their best race of the season at region. GHS traveled to LaFayette High School last Thursday, and the Lady Cats finished as region runners-up. The Bobcats also had a strong showing and took third place in their standings.

CCMS Bobcats, Lady Cats hit the hardwood

Clear Creek Middle School started its basketball season with eight league games. The CCMS Bobcats and Lady Cats took on Dawson and White counties last week and combined for three wins.   Lady Cats CCMS won decisively in both of its games versus Dawson County.

Injuries, No. 8 Calhoun undo Gilmer

The Gilmer Bobcats lost the game and some key players to injuries on both sides of the ball. The No. 8 ranked Calhoun Yellow Jackets were in Ellijay last Friday for a Region 7-3A tilt, and Gilmer showed plenty of grit in defeat.
