The Clear Creek Bobcats took on a pair of league foes on the wrestling mat.
CCMS welcomed Dawson County and Pickens to the Noah Harris Wrestling Center last Wednesday, and the host Bobcats posted a 1-1 record.
Dawson was up first, and the Tigers secured the win with three bouts left in the match, 44-42. Rival Pickens was not as fortunate, and CCMS bashed the Dragons, 66-30.
Dawson reeled off four straight wins for a 24-0 lead. Gauge Crump’s decision at 102 got CCMS on the board before a pin by Rudy Morales (110) and major by Guidman Bautista (125).
Two more DCMS wins included bonus points ahead of three straight pins by Bobcats Keigan Brookshire (139), Tucker Ledford (147) and Juan Alonso (155). The Tigers’ victory by fall at 165 made the score 44-25, and sealed the win.
Clear Creek closed out the match with wins by Fernando Montes (major, 180), Parker Settel (pin, 210) and Caleb Gaspar (pin, 275).
Pickens’ shorthanded lineup led to forfeit victories for Bobcats Dawson Duncan (72), Asher Kleczka (79), Crump (110), Gabriel Reynoso (132), Brookshire, Ledford, Alonso, Tryron Haley (165), Montes and Settel.
CCMS hosted the Junior Bobcat Duals last Saturday, and the top four teams at the event all finished inside the top seven at state last season.
Lumpkin was first and followed by Chestatee, CCMS, Jones County, North Hall and Pickens. Clear Creek results will be available in a future edition of the Times-Courier.
