Gilmer’s Emma Callihan defeated her Pickens opponent in straight sets last Thursday.

The rain stopped for a day to allow the Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats to take the court for a tennis match.

GHS hosted Pickens last Thursday, and the Bobcats and Lady Cats both swept their southern rival, 5-0.

Bobcat singles Brett Becker and Brady Sanford did not drop a game in their straight set victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Bryson Sisson won his opening set 6-0 and closed out his victory with a 6-3 win in the second set.

The top doubles team of Mason Hadden and Luke Wimpey strolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win, and PHS forfeited the last doubles match.

The Lady Cats won in similar dominating fashion. Its singles players Emma Callihan (6-1, 6-2), Hope Colwell (6-1, 6-1) and Ellie Teague (6-0,6-2) took care of business.

As the match progressed and temperatures started to drop, pro-8 set scoring was used in the doubles matches. Gilmer’s No. 1 tandem of Sarah Sheahan and Beth Burnette won 8-0 while Josie Reece and Morgan White came out on top, 8-1.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats are both 2-0 this season. GHS traveled to Northwest Whitfield at press deadline and will make its way to North Murray Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. match.
