Clear Creek jumped ahead early, and a driving rain and sloppy conditions did not make the White County Warriors’ comeback bid any easier The CCMS Bobcats scored on their first two possessions and the defense continually made plays all day.

Gilmer made a stop when it absolutely needed to. The GHS Bobcats hosted Murray County last Friday for a football game that had its share of offensive firepower. But by the second half, both teams settled in defensively as yards were tougher to come by.

The Gilmer High volleyball team played three matches last week and two counted toward the region standings. GHS was at home Monday versus Lumpkin County and won, 2-0. The Cats suffered a loss by the same score against White County the following day.

The No. 8 ranked Gilmer Lady Cats clawed opponents for three more region wins last week.  GHS played host for all three matchups, which began Tuesday with the downfall of the White County Warriors, 3-1. The Cherokee Bluff Bears were next on Wednesday and never had a chance in a 16-0 defeat.

The Gilmer Lady Cats took on a trio of nonregion volleyball opponents last week. GHS was at Chestatee Tuesday and lost to the War Eagles (2-1) and Jackson County Panthers (2-0). Gilmer was at home Thursday and notched a 3-0 victory over the Christian Heritage Lions.

While the varsity football game was canceled, the Gilmer High junior varsity Bobcats made their way to Lumpkin County last Thursday. The game was tied after two quarters before GHS scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Indians on their home field, 28-8.

The Pickens Dragons scored 10 points off Gilmer Bobcat turnovers. And it proved to be the difference. Gilmer lost 17-8 to Pickens last Friday in Jasper to give the Dragons their seventh straight victory in the rivalry. Gilmer’s Braden Jenkins catches a 39-yard touchdown pass against Pickens.

Gilmer High softball picked up two more region wins last week. The Lady Cats downed the Dawson County Tigers 6-4 at home Tuesday. They improved their region record to 6-0 when they traveled to Lumpkin County two days later and handed the Indians a 5-2 defeat.
