GHS swim continues season

Gilmer High swimmers were back in the pool last Thursday in Calhoun.

The event attracted eight teams in the girls division and seven in the boys. The Bobcats finished fourth with 120 points while the Lady Cats placed fifth with 74.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats combined for 19 placements that were high enough to garner team points.

Gilmer’s best finish came in the boys 200-yard freestyle relay. Bobcats Larz Fowler, Cole Ellis, Kaden Little and Law Lykins clocked in at 1:46.99 for third. The quartet took fifth in the 200 medley relay at 2:06.17.

Cadence Mohon placed fifth in the 500 freestyle in 8:05.53, while Isaiah Jones, Logan Ellis, Ty Cox and Jacob Kucera finished in the same position in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.22).

The Lady Cats’ 200 medley relay team of Morgan White, Emma Schramm, Olivia Lykins and Kaitlyn Grice were sixth in 2:32.21 as were Bobcats Fowler, Cole Ellis, Little and Law Lykins in the 400 freestyle relay (4:24.79). 

Individual sixth place finishers included White, 200 free (2:47.82); Law Lykins, 500 freestyle (6:35.76) and Olivia Lykins, 100 backstroke (1:29.09).

Placing eighth were Little, 100 back (1:23.38); Fowler, 100 breaststroke (1:21.21) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Grice, Olivia Lykins, Schramm and White were ninth (2:20.24.)

Remaining point scorers included Caroline Ott, 100 free (14th, 1:17.64); Schramm, 50 free (15th, 32.55); Olivia Lykins, 50 free (18th, 32.84); Jones, 100 free (18th, 1:14.97); Sierra Ellis, 100 free (23rd, 1:31.25) Kucera, 50 free (28th, 31.35) and Cox, 50 free (36th, 34.19).

Final boys standings: Calhoun (394 points), Etowah (294), Notre Dame, Tenn. (183), Gilmer (120), Cass (76), Woodland (61) and Pickens (53).

Girls placements included Etowah (982), Calhoun (297), Notre Dame (206), Pickens (124), Gilmer (75), Eagle’s Landing (61), Woodland (61) and Cass (40).
