CCMS Bobcats remain unbeaten on hardwood

Clear Creek basketball took the court for eight more games last week.

The Bobcats posted a 4-0 mark while the Lady Cats combined for a 2-2 record.

Bobcats

The Bobcats were on the road last Monday, and the seventh-grade topped the White County Warriors 41-28 before the eighth grade was victorious, 37-35.

CCMS was at home Thursday against Dawson and got two more wins. The seventh-grade Cats came out on top, 36-27, and the eighth graders won, 58-44.

Bobcat seventh graders Boston Teague and Keegan Bryant led the way against White with 19 and 12 points, respectively. CCMS led 8-2 after a quarter. Teague helped get the offense going in the second as the Bobcats built a 22-12 lead.

White gained some ground in the third but only tallied two points in the fourth as CCMS secured its win. Preston McVey and Connor Nelson added four points apiece and Bubba Callihan scored two.

Against Dawson, Teague and Bryant were there for 11 and 10 points and McVey scored four. CCMS led 17-5 at the half, and Dawson did most of its damage from the foul line in the third.

Dawson outpaced Clear Creek’s offense in the fourth, but it  was not enough to overtake the Cats.

The eighth-grade Bobcats were led by Jackson McVey’s 21 points against White. J.D. Taylor added seven, Cooper Farmer had five and Tayln Curtis finished with four.

CCMS fell behind at the half but a strong performance in the second half allowed the Bobcats to overtake White County for a two-point win.

McVey and Curtis proved to be a potent combination against Dawson County. McVey was there for 17 points and Curtis added 16.

The Clear Creek duo combined for 10 points in the opening quarter as Taylor hit a three from outside. Five Bobcats contributed points in the second quarter as CCMS led, 27-18.

The second half played out much the same as Clear Creek maintained its lead for its third win of the season.

Lady Cats

The Lady Cats hosted White County last Monday and the seventh grade earned a 39-24 over the Warriors while the eighth grade fell, 45-22.

In Dawson three days later, the hometown Tigers beat the seventh-grade Cats 52-11, and CCMS eighth graders won, 41-28.

Clear Creek seventh graders had  a well-rounded scoring effort versus White County. The Cats built a solid 16-9 lead at the half and the Warriors’ offense only produced two points in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, CCMS kept pouring on the points for a 29-11 edge with a quarter to play. While White had a productive fourth, it was not able to catch CCMS.

CCMS scoring: Sarah Dale (seven), Chelsey Griggs and Madison Hall (six each), Kaitlyn Howard (four), Bree Burnette (three) and Emma Kate Bramlett, Makayla Martin and Jaylee McDaniel (two each).

The Cats were held scoreless versus Dawson in the first quarter and fell behind 34-8 at the half. CCMS added three more points in the third but could not score in the fourth. Gracie Pritchett led the way for CCMS with eight points.

The seventh grade kicked off its season a week earlier against Union County and lost, 43-25. Burnette scored nine, Madison Hall netted six, Griggs added four and Addie Vick, Gracie Gaitunaglou and Pritchett all scored two.

The eighth-grade Lady Cats got off to a sluggish start against White County, and the Warriors led 26-7 at the half.

WCMS extended its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter where it cruised to a 23-point win. Burnette led CCMS with five points as Aliza Chastain, Kamryn Baxter and Pritchett added four apiece.

It was a different story for CCMS versus Dawson County. Lady Cat Madison Bradshaw erupted for 15 points and Burnette was there for 11.

The Cats surged ahead 29-12 at the half. Dawson started to show some life offensively in the third, but CCMS maintained a 41-20 advantage with a quarter to play.

While CCMS was held scoreless in the fourth, the Cats still won with ease.

Chastain scored six points for CCMS, Gracie Bramlett added four, Baxter and Julibelle Queen both had two, and Carly Becerra tallied a point.

The eighth-grade Cats began the season a week prior by losing a close game to Union County, 43-40.

Behind Chastain’s 11 points were teammates Burnette and Bramlett (eight each), Bradshaw (seven) and Becerra (six).
