Cats rally for win vs. Spartans

The Gilmer High Bobcats got a much-needed road victory. GHS was at West Hall last Saturday to continue its region schedule. The Spartans could not get shots to fall at the same rate in the second half, while the Bobcats found their rhythm in the fourth.

Lady Cats smash Spartans by 56 for 1st region win

The Gilmer Lady Cats earned their first region basketball victory of the season. GHS was in West Hall last Saturday and came away with a lopsided win over the beleaguered Spartans. Offense has not come easy for WHHS this season and Gilmer’s press forced turnovers in bunches as the Cats won, 68-12.
Junior Carson Farist (above) and senior Hannah Mayo (below) both earned wins last Saturday to help Gilmer High qualify for the boys and girls Class 3A state duals. Farist recently eclipsed 100 wins, and his career record at GHS currently stands at 103-7.

GHS wrestling set for state

Gilmer High is set for a return to the Class 3A state duals. GHS cemented its postseason wrestling destination last Saturday with three wins at home during state preliminaries. The Bobcats trounced Monroe Area and Jackson while Gilmer’s girls crushed Burke County.

Gilmer High swimmers have hit the homestretch of their season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Canton last Saturday for the Water Warrior Invitational. Ten teams were in attendance, and the Bobcats placed seventh with 67 points while the Lady Cats claimed ninth on their side with six.

Wesleyan Wolves slip by GHS Bobcats for 62-59 region victory

Gilmer and Wesleyan took the court in a meeting between two of the region’s top teams. The GHS Bobcats hosted the Wolves last Tuesday, and Wesleyan was buoyed by Josh Kavel’s 26-point performance.

CCMS seventh-grade Lady Cats improve to 9-2

Clear Creek returned to the basketball court to take on the Lumpkin County Indians. The CCMS Lady Cats were at home last Monday, and the seventh graders came away with a 39-20 victory while the eighth grade lost, 41-27.

No. 2 ranked Wolves take down GHS Cats

Gilmer High’s daunting region schedule continued with its latest home game. The GHS Lady Cats hosted No. 2 Wesleyan last Tuesday in their return to the court after Christmas. While the Cats did show some promise in the first half, the Wolves’ talent and quickness were too much for GHS.

Gilmer returns home with 2 area titles

It was another stellar week for Gilmer High School wrestling. The GHS Bobcats were in White County last Saturday for the Area 7-3A duals tournament. Gilmer overcame a pair of opponents to add another championship to its billowing tally.
