Gilmer High tennis falls to Oconee Co.

Gilmer High tennis met top seeded Oconee County to start the state tennis tournament. The No. 4 seeded GHS Lady Cats made the trip to take on the Warriors last Wednesday, and they returned home with a 5-0 defeat.

No. 2 Oconee Co. survives Bobcats

The Gilmer Bobcats were tasked with playing one of the top soccer teams in the state to kick off the Class 3A playoffs. GHS made the trek to Oconee County (15-1-2) last Wednesday to face the No. 2 ranked Warriors.

Playoff matchup set for Bobcats

The Gilmer Bobcats had a final tuneup before the state soccer playoffs. GHS made its way to Wesleyan last Tuesday for the region finale. The first-place Wolves are ranked No. 5 in Class 3A and were able to add another win to their seasonal tally, and they jumped ahead by two goals at the half.

Wolves sweep GHS Cats

Gilmer High continued its region baseball schedule against top ranked opponents. The GHS Bobcats previously faced No. 6 ranked Lumpkin County before taking on No. 4 Pickens two weeks ago. Last week the Cats met Wesleyan for a three-game series, and the No. 7 Wolves came away with three wins.

Gilmer Lady Cats wrap soccer campaign on road

Gilmer closed out its soccer season against one of the best teams in Class 3A. The Lady Cats made their way to take on Wesleyan last Tuesday. The No. 4 ranked Wolves had plenty of firepower and were able to defeat the Cats, 9-0.

GHS Lady Cat tennis qualifies for state

The Gilmer High Lady Cats are set for the state tennis tournament. The Cats entered last Tuesday’s  Region 7-3A tournament as the No. 6 seed, but pulled a 3-1 upset over No. 3 seeded White County in the opening round to solidify their state spot.

Gilmer Bobcats, Lady Cats mash LFO

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats earned dominating soccer wins ahead of spring break. GHS traveled to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe last Thursday to face the Warriors for a pair of nonregion matches. The Lady Cats secured the first shutout on the day as four players scored goals in a 5-0 rout.

Dragons take three from GHS Bobcats on diamond

The Gilmer Bobcats squared off against one of the hottest baseball teams in Class 3A. GHS met archrival Pickens (19-3) for a three-game series last week, and the Dragons got the sweep. Gilmer was plagued by defensive errors all series, and the majority of the Dragons’ runs were unearned.

GHS track runs at Mt. Yonah

Gilmer High track was in Cleveland for its latest event. The annual Mt. Yonah Invitational drew eight teams last Saturday, and the GHS Bobcats topped out at 55 points for sixth place. The Lady Cats’ day ended with 45 points for eighth in the girls standings.
