Gilmer High School came away with three placements at the state track meet.
The Class 3A Track and Field Championships were held last week at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, and Bobcats Aspen Hataway and John Keener and Lady Cat Lilyan Cook reached the medal stand.
Hataway, the reigning pole vault champion from Region 7, achieved a mark of 12’ 6” at state. The height gave Hataway second place behind Hart County’s Luke Samples at 14’ 6”. Fellow GHS senior Keener tied for third place, and he cleared 11’ 6”.
Cook arrived at state as Region 7’s discus champion. She capped her stellar freshman season with a throw of 110’ 1” for seventh place. Jaidyn Hayes of Liberty County was the state champion with a mark of 123’ 10”.
