GHS volleyball drops four more matches

Gilmer High volleyball continued its region schedule after facing a pair of nonregion foes. The GHS Lady Cats were at Chestatee last Tuesday and lost to the host War Eagles and Pickens in straight sets. Gilmer was in Adairsville two days later.

Fannin County races past Bobcats

A muggy afternoon in Ellijay ended with Fannin County beating Gilmer for the second year in a row. The football season was set to begin last Friday evening, but hours of lightning strikes postponed the rivalry tilt until the following morning at 11 a.m.

Gilmer High softball gets back in win column, 5-0

Runs were tough to come by in the Gilmer Lady Cats’ first full region softball series. GHS fell to Ridgeland last Monday before the Cats faced the Heritage Generals Tuesday and Thursday. Gilmer was on the road for the first meeting, and the Cats’ errors spotted HHS three runs.

Clear Creek battled White County to begin the middle school football season. The CCMS Bobcats made the trek to Cleveland last Wednesday for a pair of games against the Warriors, and the eighth graders were up first. The Bobcats played from behind for much of the evening and trailed at the half.

CCMS softball wins pair

The Clear Creek Lady Cats are off to a 3-1 record in league play. CCMS kicked off its softball season Aug. 5 at home against Pickens, and the Dragonettes returned to Jasper with a 9-1 loss. The Cats traveled to Dawson County two days later and fell to the Tigers, 11-6. The Cats dropped their Aug.

Cats narrowly lose nonregion matches

The Gilmer High Lady Cats have continued to navigate their nonregion volleyball schedule through the early season. Gilmer played six more matches last week, and while the Cats found themselves on the losing side each time, head coach Maria Huelsman believes they are about to break through.

Wofford ready to soar with Eagles

Ryder Wofford was an integral part of Gilmer’s basketball success in recent years, and he is ready to take his skills to the next level. Wofford, a 2024 GHS graduate, will attend Reinhardt University to play for the Eagles.

Gilmer softball begins region play vs. Ridgeland

The Gilmer Lady Cats were back on the softball field as they made their way through the nonregion schedule. The Cats were home for a pair of matchups last Tuesday and Thursday. First up was Dawson County, and GHS could not buy a hit when it needed it most.

Cats top Woodland

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were busy in their first week of volleyball action. GHS made the short trip to Pickens last Tuesday for three matches. Fannin County was up first, and the Lady Rebels defeated the Cats in straight sets.

Scrimmage showcases offenses

There was plenty of offense on display when the Gilmer Bobcats took the field for the first time in 2024. GHS hosted the Sequoyah Chiefs last Friday for its preseason football scrimmage.
