Gilmer High volleyball served a loss to Stephens County to wrap up the regular season.
The GHS Lady Cats were on the court for four matches last week, and the Cats notched a 2-1 win over Stephens Thursday. They also lost to host North Hall by the same margin.
Two days prior, GHS was in LaFayette for region matches and fell to the Ramblers and the Northwest Whitfield Bruins. 2-0.
Versus Stephens, Gilmer smashed the Indians in the first set, 25-11. The Cats fell in the second (25-22) before pulling out the third set for the win, 15-11. Lilyan Cook led the offensive charge with nine kills, Madison Bradshaw scored five, and both Caylee Elrod and Jace Sanderson finished with four.
Sanderson also added four aces, nine digs and 10 assists. Maddie Usry totaled 13 digs, while Bradshaw was thee for nine digs and six assists. Aliza Chastain collected seven digs, and she received 18 serves.
The North Hall match followed a similar pattern. The Trojans took the first set (25-11) and lost the second, 25-16. NHHS secured the win in the third set, 15-7.
Cook had four kills in the match while both Sanderson and Usry totaled three. Dig leaders included Usry (seven), Bradshaw (six), Chastain (five), Sanderson (four) and Elrod (three). Sanderson provided six assists and Bradshaw tallied five.
Tuesday at LaFayette, the Ramblers won by scores of 25-15 and 25-19. Notable statistics included Sanderson’s eight kills, Bradshaw’s eight assists, Usry’s five digs and Cook’s two aces.
After Northwest took the first set 25-11, GHS played a closer second sect but were still defeated, 25-20. Cook was there for six kills, and Sanderson and Usry finished with nine and six digs, respectively. Sanderson added four assists and Bradshaw had three.
GHS is 5-31 overall and 3-9 versus region opponents. The Cats are set to begin the region tournament this week.
